    Job Title: Community Based Treatment Youth Mentor

     

    Department: Community Based Treatment

    Position Summary

    The Community-Based Treatment (CBT) Youth Mentor performs community contact work and assists in providing services to youth and family members under the close and regular supervision of a Social Worker. The Youth Mentor helps youth build pro-social decision-making skills, connect to community supports, and develop independence through strength-based, trauma-informed mentoring and life skills coaching

    Department

    New Directions’ Community-Based Treatment program provides individualized support to youth and families through mentoring, coaching, and community engagement. The program focuses on teaching life skills, fostering resiliency, and connecting youth to positive resources that support long-term stability and personal growth.

    Compensation

    $19.04 – $20.00 per hour (based on education and years of relevant experience).

    Schedule

    + Full-Time, 35 hour week.

    + Monday – Friday

    Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities

    + Teach pro-social decision-making skills through coaching and modeling.

    + Maintain a supportive, predictable relationship with assigned youth.

    + Provide socialization and life-skill development activities that promote independence.

    + Connect youth with community activities and recreational supports to foster resiliency and engagement.

    + Respond to crises as a support system and use teachable opportunities to promote growth.

    + Provide coverage and service delivery in the absence of the assigned social worker.

    + Participate in supervision and training for ongoing professional development.

    + Represent the agency in the community as a liaison and ambassador.

    + Participate in parent training and group work as needed.

    + Attend case-related meetings, conferences, and trainings.

    + Complete all required documentation accurately and timely.

    + Maintain First Aid/CPR certification provided by the agency.

    + Comply with all agency safety and health policies.

    + Perform all other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    + Knowledge of community resources and ability to access specialized services for youth.

    + Ability to advocate effectively for youth.

    + Ability to work effectively with youth, families, staff, and community partners from diverse backgrounds.

    + Strong communication skills across multiple mediums (logbooks, email, telephone).

    + Ability to build and maintain positive relationships and work as part of a team.

    + Flexibility, adaptability, and professionalism in dynamic environments.

    + Valid NYS driver’s license, adequate auto insurance, and reliable transportation.

    + Ability to pass an annual physical for Category 1 job classification.

    + Compliance with agency safety standards and health policies.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and at least one year of experience with children’s services preferred.

    + High School Diploma plus two years of youth/community experience required.
