ABOUT
The AIS Infrastructure Group consists of four civil/vertical construction companies. Our services include infrastructure improvement, heavy civil construction, vertical construction, site development for government and state agencies and private enterprise across the United States.
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
The Working Underground Foreman will work under the direct supervision of the superintendent, general foreman, and project manager, coordinating daily production, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring adherence to safety and environmental regulations. The Working Underground Foreman is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing a team of pipe layers, operators, and laborers completing tasks involving physical labor and may include lifting, pulling, digging, cleaning work sites, maintaining and cleaning equipment and tools, to ensure the work is completed safely and accurately, as well as completing and assisting with completing those tasks.
**PAYRATE:** $58.41 plus fringe rates
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Lead, direct, and participate in daily installation and alignment of pipelines and underground utilities according to project specifications.
+ Plan work sequences and assign tasks to crew members to meet production goals and project schedules.
+ Ensure proper trenching, bedding, and backfilling methods are used to meet design grades and compaction requirements.
+ Oversee alignment, grade, and joint integrity for all pipe installations (storm, sanitary, water, and conduit systems).
+ Operate and guide the use of heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, and trench boxes as needed.
+ Verify pipe elevations, slopes, and locations using grade rods, lasers, or GPS systems.
+ Maintain accurate daily records of quantities installed, materials used, and work performed.
+ Communicate with the Superintendent and Project Engineer regarding plan changes, conflicts, and field adjustments.
+ Enforce company and OSHA safety standards; conduct daily safety talks and inspections.
+ Inspect completed work for quality and compliance with project drawings and specifications.
+ Mentor crew members and promote teamwork, productivity, and skill development.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Certification in pipeline installation or relevant vocational training is preferred.
+ Minimum of 10 years of experience in pipeline and underground utility installation, with at least 6 years in a leadership or foreman capacity.
+ Strong understanding of blueprints, plans, and utility specifications.
+ Knowledge of trenching, shoring, bedding, and backfilling best practices.
+ Ability to set and verify **line and grade** using lasers, levels, or GPS.
+ Familiarity with **pipe materials, fittings, and connectors** especially RCP and HDPE.
+ Working knowledge of **heavy equipment operations** , including excavation safety around utilities.
+ Excellent communication, crew coordination, and problem-solving skills.
+ Proven ability to maintain a safe work environment and uphold company safety policies.
+ Basic reporting and documentation skills (daily logs, quantities, crew reports).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to perform **strenuous physical labor** in outdoor construction environments and to lead by example in the field.
The employee must be able to:
+ Lift and carry heavy objects (up to 100 lbs).
+ Work for extended periods standing, walking, bending, or kneeling in trenches and uneven terrain.
+ Operate tools and equipment requiring coordination, dexterity, and physical strength.
+ Tolerate exposure to heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, and noisy environments.
+ Maintain high levels of stamina and attention to detail during long workdays.
