Summary This position functions as the Supervisor of the Utility Systems Repairer Operator (USRO) Shop within the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Section of the Facilities Management Service at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center, Bronx, NY and is responsible for decision making on technical and non-technical matters in reference to daily operation of the Boiler Plant and Air Conditioning Plant. Responsibilities Duties may include but are not limited to: Responsible for the operation of the utility systems plant (Boiler Plant and Air Conditioning Plant) for 24 hours per day, seven days a week; Maintaining boiler water levels, temperatures and internal pressures and responsible for accurate records of the data on operating logs and within tracking systems; Providing written instruction to follow or personnel has followed proceeding operator's instructions left the operator's log; Plans and schedules work assignments on a short and long range basis; Determines manpower and makes recommendation to leadership; Organizes, coordinates, and directs the work activities of the personnel supervised; Reviews and analyzes production, cost, and personnel utilization records to evaluate progress of work; Prepares standard operating procedures and work schedules; Develops quality and quantity standards; Makes formal appraisals of their work performance, and determines training needs for personnel; Assures that appropriate maintenance reports and administrative records are maintained; and Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Utility Systems Repairer Operator Supervisor/PD11689O Physical Requirements: the incumbent is exposed to working with heights; working with moving parts and rotating machinery; electrical apparatus; noisy machines etc., and therefore uses protective devices, such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, and gloves. Work is performed inside where the area is usually dry and heated, but short periods of time may be spent exposed to extreme and abnormal temperatures. Greasy and dirty works as well as fumes from refrigerants and combustible gases constitute disagreeable and unavoidable elements of the position. Hazards include the possibility of electrical shock, injury to eyes from handling chemicals and injury from burns in connection with steam piping and valves. The employee is also required to work rotating shifts and be on-call. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
