DAYS/HOURS:
Afternoons, evenings, and weekends throughout the week.
Must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
Under direction, responsible for on-site supervision of City pools and surrounding aquatics areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensures staff and patron adherence to operating policies and procedures.
Performs lifeguard duties and lifesaving procedures.
Performs all opening and closing procedures. Completes routine safety checks of pools, equipment and the surrounding aquatics area in order to maintain safety and health standards. Tests and maintains chemical balance of pools. Identifies and addresses problems.
Assists in performing routine cleaning, maintenance and repairs of aquatic equipment. Resolves problems as situations arise. Arranges assistance with maintenance and repairs, if necessary.
Provides quality customer service by responding to customer issues and concerns in a timely manner. Reports customer service issues and concerns to supervisor.
Keeps accurate records of aquatic facility usage, rules violations, accidents, and chemical levels.
Assists in developing and conducting in-service training sessions.
Instructs all levels of swim lessons as assigned.
May work a varying schedule and/or shift.
May act as "manager on duty" in the absence of the Pool Manager or Aquatics Specialist.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Must be at least 17 years of age. One to two years/seasons of aquatics leadership as an instructor, lifeguard or coach preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Ellis Lifeguarding certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days. A certification in swim instructions such as Red Cross, WSI or equivalent or ability to obtain within 30 days OR at least one year of experience in swim lesson instruction.
May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of aquatics facilities and equipment used in aquatics programs.
Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
Ability to listen well and communicate both verbally and in writing.
Ability to promote and provide quality customer service.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, swim, rescue, bend, kneel, stoop, squat, twist, push, pull, jump, climb, reach, talk, hear, and see. The employee is also required to frequently perform light to heavy lifting.
