Gunsmith II involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining small arms weapons and systems, performing detailed assembly/disassembly, conducting inspections, and completing documentation for military or government contracts. Responsibilities include minor and major repairs on various weapon systems, ensuring firearms meet safety standards, and managing tools, parts, and work areas.

Responsibilities

+ This position is responsible for conducting field and limited sustainment-level maintenance on a variety of military small arms, including carbines, pistols, and machine guns.

+ Diagnose issues, perform repairs, and ensure all firearms meet safety and performance standards.

+ Repair and replace weapon system components such as springs, triggers, firing pins, and barrels.

+ Make precision timing adjustments, perform operational checks, and test-fire weapons as needed for accuracy and safety.

+ Oversee a team of lower-level gunsmiths, manage maintenance schedules, and ensure workload efficiency.

+ Complete and manage documentation, including work orders, parts tracking, and status reports.

+ Maintain proper workstations, tools, key control, and bench stock inventories.

+ Potentially serve as an instructor on standard and non-standard small arms weapon systems.

+ Possess a deeper knowledge of gunsmithing.

+ Actively manage safety, quality, and efficiency for all assigned tasks.

+ Manage relationships with supporting Units to foster a positive work environment and resolve conflicts professionally.

+ In addition to performing all functions of a Level I and Level II Gunsmith, the Gunsmith Level II position typically requires attendance to a factory Armorer's course with a focus on small arms.

+ Possess excellent knowledge of gunsmithing tools and procedures and possess moderate knowledge of firearms operating principles and ballistics.

+ Have a thorough understanding of firearm operation principles, has a moderate knowledge of internal/external ballistic theories.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

+ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

+ Proven problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing challenges and finding solutions.

+ Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

+ Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) the ability to lift, push, pull, a minimum of 40 pounds, stooping, bending, squatting, and reaching.

+ Relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of small arms.

+ Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent legal resident with oral and written fluency in the English language.

+ Highschool diploma or GED equivalent.

+ Must possess and continuously maintain a current state driver's license.

+ Must receive a favorable background check and drug testing results.

+ Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) to obtain a CAC.

Desired Qualifications:

+ Ideal candidate will have completed prerequisite training for Army Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 91F2O/3O – Small Arms/Artillery Repair.

+ Attendance at a formal one-to-two-year accredited in-house gun-smithing course or 2-3 years of Gun Smith II experience.

+ Knowledge of U.S. Army procedures and logistics information system.

+ Be thoroughly familiar with the US Technical manuals (TMs).

+ Experience with GCSS-Army.

+ Working knowledge (proficient) of Microsoft Office 365(Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
