Do you take pride in keeping critical systems running flawlessly? As a SCADA System Maintenance Technician (III / Senior), you’ll play a key role in monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing APS’s SCADA Network—the technology backbone that enables safe, reliable energy delivery across Arizona.
You’ll be part of a highly skilled team that ensures system performance, availability, and compliance while collaborating with engineers and operators to identify, troubleshoot, and prevent issues before they impact operations. Your expertise will directly contribute to the reliability of the grid and the success of our mission to power Arizona’s future.
What your day would be like:
+ Monitor and maintain APS’s SCADA systems to ensure high performance, reliability, and uptime.
+ Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of alarms, events, and system issues.
+ Work closely with engineering and operations teams to implement solutions and recommend process improvements.
+ Maintain compliance with regulatory and internal standards through proactive system management.
+ Manage configuration changes, apply updates, and document system maintenance activities.
+ Support the integration of new technologies and equipment into existing SCADA infrastructure.
+ Respond to system alerts and perform on-call duties as needed to maintain critical operations.

Minimum Requirements
SCADA System Maintenance Technician, III | Information Technology
+ Associates Degree in Technical Studies or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved
+ Demonstrated knowledge in electric and/or electronic theory, along with a general knowledge of math and science
+ PLUS four (4) years progressively responsible experience demonstrating knowledge of data network infrastructure, networking, application integration, integration services and maintenance/support in a focused technical area
+ Technical knowledge of multi-platform LAN/WAN distributed and/or mainframe systems.
+ Good analytical, problem solving, troubleshooting and customer service and communications skills, and knowledge of emerging technologies
SCADA System Maintenance Technician, Senior | Information Technology
+ Associates Degree in Technical Studies or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
+ Demonstrated knowledge in electric and/or electronic theory, along with a general knowledge of math and science.
+ PLUS six (6) years progressively difficult experience demonstrating expert knowledge of SCADA network infrastructure, Communication infrastructure, integration services and maintenance/support in a focused technical area.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
+ BS/BA degree preferred
+ Knowledge of service offerings; customer service principles; various computer software applications, PCs, operating systems, and other computer-related technologies.
+ Demonstrated proficiency or certification (CCNA or equiv.) in IP routing, switching and Ethernet functionality.
+ Possess an effective understanding of electronic theory and circuit analysis.
+ Knowledge of Operating Systems:
+ ADMS, EMS spectrum, Real Time Control Systems,
+ SCADA, Protective Relaying, Network Communications, TCP/IP, Telecommunications Protocols, RTU Protocols, DNP and IEC protocols, Networking Equipment, CSU/DSU, Router, Switch, Gateway, RTU
+ Real time systems run in production 7x24 (7 days, 24 hours/day); therefore, 24 hour operations is required, this position may require shift work.
+ Knowledge of service offerings; customer service principles; various computer software applications, PCs, operating systems, and other computer-related technologies.
+ Familiarity in Drafting or Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)
Major Accountabilities
1) Under limited supervision, perform construction, maintenance and repair work on SCADA systems and subsystems
2) Resolve failures and impairments in a timely, effective and efficient manner
3) Review engineering design to ensure compliance with internal and external design standards.
4) Perform routine equipment maintenance and perform emergency repairs as needed or directed.
5) Installs new equipment, participates in shakedown testing, alignment, placing equipment into service, providing written and verbal reports, updating technical drawings, meeting in-service schedules
6) Responsible for researching and documenting various mitigation strategies, Knowledgebase (KBs), and must maintain current and thorough knowledge of Infrastructure, applications and business technologies and their significance to the utility operational environments
7) May also perform advanced system administration tasks such as substation checkout, system troubleshooting and repair and oversee/coordinate third party leased services
8) Track and report progress on assignments. Provide information and/or produce reports to assist with project construction estimates, as well as damage assessment reports, repair actions and implementation results
9) Provide assistance to engineering personnel and manufacturer representatives in the evaluation and testing of new equipment, including the development/implementation of test procedures and/or the design and construction of specialized configurations
10) Produce reports and technical drawings for system documentation and maintain required recordkeeping.
11) Maintain full compliance with all regulatory requirements, safety policies, procedures and standards and perform all work in a safe manner

Home Based: Home based employees primarily work from their home offices and come into an APS facility on an as-needed basis.
*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
