The Director of AP and Commercial Card will establish next generation strategies for new business acquisition that drives performance across our Commercial Payments teams. You’ll ensure our teams use a systematic sales approach that is repeatable, collaborative and focused on selling the ‘whole bank’. You’ll work closely with the Executive Leadership team to partner on seamless sales process, account management, account retention and product delivery. Responsible for meeting annual sales goals while maintaining profit margins established in the annual business plan for each product line. Drive business Development efforts targeted toward large corporate customers, with the primary contact being the CFO, Controller, or Treasury Manager of the Company.
This role will report directly to the Executive Director of Commercial Payments and be a key member of the leadership team supporting strategies between the various Payments teams and across the Commercial segment.
About This Job
The main purpose of this job is to establish next generation strategies for new business acquisition that drives performance across our Commercial Payments teams
Essential Functions
+ Play a critical role in maintaining and expanding our national footprint, working to strengthen our position in the market and grow our customer base
+ Align national business development strategy to deliver consistent performance quarterly and annually across each of our geographic and specialty teams
+ Guide the sales team through the changing landscape of how prospects purchase B2B solutions including our partnership strategy, social selling, centers of influence, and national/regional events strategy to keep Commerce current and drive new sales
+ Develop and maintain the usage of accountable systems like Sales Force - Insight360, PowerBI, Manager Playbooks, and incentive plans to drive results
+ Continually refine new sales onboarding program and launch a new certification program for tenured employees’ continuing education including active usage of the consultative selling model
+ Identify strategic client relationships and assist in their retention and expansion collaboratively with Commercial Relationship Managers, account management, and Payments partners
+ Collaborate with Market Leadership and Relationship Managers to ensure alignment on growing Commercial Payments solutions
+ Influence our product, marketing (and messaging), and pricing direction with information learned from the field and in-person client interactions
+ Drive growth through our Strategic Partner channels and embedded banking strategies. Managing and expanding our existing portfolio of partnerships, fostering excellent relationships with each partner.
+ Overall responsibility for P&L management including budget, planning and expense management
+ Develop short and long-term initiatives that align with the company strategy and provide guidance, coaching and development opportunities appropriate to each direct report's individual needs
+ Lead, mentor and motivate team members to implement the department strategy and be responsible for upholding the company culture and driving it within the organization.
+ Communicate decisions, priorities and relevant information to appropriate levels of staff effectively
+ Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
+ Ability to travel approximately 30%-40% of the time
+ Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and meet Commerce Bank’s driving record criteria; ongoing employment may be contingent upon meeting all driving requirements
+ Executive presence and ability to interact with and influence leaders across the Bank, with clients and across the industry
+ Experienced, connected, and educated in the complexities of the Commercial Payments industry
+ Adept at identifying trends, analyzing data and making strategic decisions to keep Commerce at the forefront of the industry
+ Proven track record of successful leadership in coaching teams, contract negotiation, and excellent closing skills in business to business (B2B) solution sales
+ Strategic thinker who leverages personal experience, business insight and financial acumen to identify new verticals, partnerships, products and revenue models to accelerate revenue growth
+ Collaborative leader with interpersonal and organizational savvy to drive change and accelerate performance across the bank
+ Leader who attracts diverse and high caliber talent and implements a repeatable framework for employee success
+ Ability to create a high performing team and successfully lead initiatives, projects and activities that support departmental and organizational goals
+ Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across the organization and interact/influence/negotiate effectively at all levels of management and peers
+ Ability to think critically, solve problems, make decisions and build trust across the company and effectively envision, develop, and implement new strategies to address competitive complex business issues
+ Expert general management knowledge and skills, such as departmental goal setting and planning, budgeting and personnel administration
+ Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values
+ Advance level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook
Education & Experience
+ Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience required
+ 15+ years leadership experience required
+ 7+ years Accounts Payable leadership experience in a business to business (B2B) environment required
+ Experience with a cloud-base CRM like Salesforce.com (or comparable consultative selling model) required
