Job Description:
Reporting to the Sorenson Community Campus Events Coordinator, the Event Specialist monitors and facilitates events and daily operations on the campus. Assists users with equipment and other needs, unlocks and secures building, ensures that rules and regulations are adhered to and facility is left in satisfactory condition. Requires irregular work hours including weekends, evenings and holidays.
About the Position:
The Events Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the success of Sorenson Community Campus events and daily operations. This dynamic position involves coordinating event setup and teardown, assisting with equipment and facility needs, and providing excellent customer service to guests and staff. The ideal candidate is proactive, personable, and enjoys creating welcoming, well-organized environments. This role requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays while supporting a wide range of community programs and activities.
Schedule: Part-time approximately 20 hours per week.
Position Hourly Rate:
$19.00/hr
Typical Duties:
+ Assist in the setup, facilitation, and teardown of, meetings, parties, events and program activities held on the Campus which may include moving and lifting tables and chairs, connecting basic AV equipment, assembling stage and seating risers, and taking on other tasks to ensure these operations run smoothly.
+ Open and close the facility at the start and end of events and/or daily operations following established procedures.
+ Ensure patrons and event organizers leave the facility in satisfactory condition according to Rental and/or Facility use agreements. May assist janitorial staff in general litter pickup and light cleanup duties.
+ Positively engage with patrons and participants. Help to de-escalate conflicts that may occur and ensure that rules and safety regulations are followed by all users of the Campus.
+ Greet patrons and taking telephone calls at the reception desk to answer questions about Campus amenities and Youth and Family services, direct them to Campus admin team, other staff and resources as applicable.
+ Provide backup to the Events Coordinator when they are not on site.
+ Support and fills in for other Campus staff as needed. This may include monitoring the computer lab, perform administrative/office tasks, and facility management duties.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
+ Must be at least 21 years of age.
+ Possession of a valid driver’s license or driving privilege card.
+ Ability and willingness to connect and interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
+ Ability to deal with public under potentially adverse circumstances.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with the public, supervisors and other employees.
+ One (1) year paid work experience performing event functions at a performing arts theater or equivalent venue. Working knowledge of computers and standard office machines.
+ Must be responsible, punctual, and have the ability to make quick decisions.
Desired Qualifications:
+ Familiarity with AV equipment such as projectors, speaker systems, and computer related media devices.
+ Bilingual in Spanish and English
Working Conditions:
+ Moderate physical activity. Required to push/pull or lift light weights.
+ Exposure to intermittent stress as a result of human behavior.
+ Requires irregular work schedule with evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
