    The Lead Welding Instructor is responsible for the delivery of short-term welding programs, leading to AWS certifications. Instructional delivery in a variety of settings such as a mobile lab, traditional classrooms, correctional facilities, and at industrial sites. The Lead Welding Instructor is responsible for set-up and technical assistance with Mobile Welding Labs deployed around the state. Significant role of position is leading in the maintenance and care of the Mobile Welding Labs and equipment, as well as tracking/control of inventory. The Lead Welding Instructor will also engage in curriculum development and outreach to business and industry and work as a supporting partner to colleges. The candidate will be expected to interact with users, peers and management via phone, IM, video, email and in person. The position will require considerable travel within the State of Georgia. The position will report to the Deputy Commissioner of Economic Development.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Organize programs of practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in welding professions, and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology; prepares outline of instructional programs and studies and assembles materials to be presented; reviews with supervisor, as needed;

    • Instruct students in subject areas, i.e., use, maintenance, and the safe operation of tools and equipment, codes or regulations related to the welding program;

    • Instruct students in the importance of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness and good work habits in obtaining employment in industries that depend on welding to build their products;

    • Maintain appropriate documentation on student attendance, performance, etc. and provides reporting to collaborating partners as required;

    • Work with ED staff and colleges to adjust or develop specific training programs to meet project requirements;

    • Participate in professional development and training opportunities as needed for the role;

    • Participate in staff meetings and other administrative meetings as required;

    • Develop and/or assist with the development of policies and procedures to support the efficient and effective running of the Mobile Welding Lab program;

    • Assist with maintenance and inventory tracking/control of mobile welding labs;

    • Support colleges in outreach and marketing efforts with local business and industry;

    • Participate in recruitment and outreach efforts on behalf of colleges, and the system as a whole;

    • Maintain all relevant professional welding certifications; and

    • Other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    A Technical diploma in the Welding Technology field from an accredited technical college or university *OR* three years of industry experience in a welding position: TIG, Pipe, Gas Metal Arc, Gas Tungsten Arc, Basic Structural Steel, and/or Shielded Metal Arc Welding

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • NCCER Instructor Certification Class and successful completion of (2) specified ASME pipe welding tests is a condition of employment

    • Three or more years of experience teaching, training, or developing curriculum

    • Three or more years of experience with related experience, working with business and industry (e.g.: sales, consulting, etc.)

    TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

    • Mathematical skills sufficient to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

    • Knowledge of theory and practical applications of welding

    • Ability to demonstrate use of welding tools, technology, and associated competencies

    • Ability to establish, measure, and evaluate program student learning outcomes for continuous student improvement and success

    • Decision making and problem-solving skills

    • Ability to successfully communicate with diverse populations in a wide variety of settings

    • Strong client-facing skills, assertiveness, strong communications skills, leadership, self- starter

    • Ability to work remotely and maintain effective communication with team members

    • Ability to work in a team environment

    • Ability to read and comprehend complex technical documents

    • Ability to manage multiple assignments

    • Skill in interpersonal relations and dealing with vendors and contractors.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    • Proficient in working with common office technology resources
