    The Windows Fundamentals team is responsible for the reliability, performance, battery life and sustainability of Windows devices. Our work touches the full stack of hardware, the operating system as well as the application layers to protect, manage and improve the Fundamentals of the Windows ecosystem.

     

    We are seeking a **Senior Software Engineer-Windows Fundamentals** team member dedicated to advancing diagnostic capabilities aimed at enhancing performance and battery life across Windows devices. By leveraging artiificial intelligence(AI), telemetry, and automation, we focus on creating diagnostics that are seamless, actionable, and scalable. Our solutions span the entire software stack, empowering engineers and customers to identify and resolve issues impacting performance and battery usage quickly and effectively.     The set of tools/technologies we use to achieve our objectives include C, C++, C#, scripting, Windbg, Cosmos/Kusto/Asimov and other trace processing applications in Azure, machine learning models, Power BI, statistics, Windows Performance Analyzer, Event Tracing for Windows (ETW)

    Responsibilities

    + Develop and implement code changes throughout the software and hardware stack to drive improvements in diagnostics and overall device fundamentals.

    + Analyze and debug software and hardware behavior, both locally and at scale, by leveraging telemetry and trace data to diagnose issues impacting performance and battery life.

    + Lead the design and architecture of innovative solutions and optimizations that enhance device reliability, efficiency, and longevity.

    + Deliver quality, robust enhancements with a focus on scalability, consistency, and thoughtful tradeoff analysis across the technology ecosystem.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience

    + Experience in design, programming and problem-solving skills.

    Other Requirements:

    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

     

    **Microsoft Cloud Background Check** : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, Javascript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+years in technical engineering with coding in languages including, but not limited to C, C++, C#, Java, Javascript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + Familiarity with OS architecture and system-level development.

    + Analysis capabilities towards optimizing systems.

    + Experience in technical leadership and collaboration skills.

     

    Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
