    Job Summary

    The HVAC Take-Off Technician is responsible for generating accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical systems across a variety of construction projects. This role is essential to the bidding and planning process, ensuring both profitability and adherence to technical specifications.

     

    This position offers a clear path to advancement: candidates who consistently exceed expectations in their Take-Off Technician duties will have the opportunity to transition into an Estimator role.

     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing the following regularly and/or as needed:

    + Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and scope documents to develop detailed cost estimates

    + Perform on screen take-off duties as the primary job duty

    + Quantify materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems

    + Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure alignment on scope and pricing

    + Solicit and evaluate bids from suppliers and subcontractors

    + Assist in preparing/submitting bid proposals, budgets, and cost breakdowns

    + Assist in preparation for pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess project conditions

    + Maintain and update cost databases, historical pricing records, and estimating tools

    + Support value engineering efforts and identify cost-saving opportunities

    + Assist in post-award cost tracking and budget management

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    + High School diploma or equivalent required

    + Minimum 3 years’ experience with on screen take-off within the HVAC industry

    + Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Excel, Trimble, AutoBid, or similar)

    + Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents

    + Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills

    + Strong communication and negotiation abilities

    + Good communication and interpersonal skills

    + Familiarity with local building codes and industry standards

    + Experience with BIM and digital takeoff tools

    + Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates simultaneously

    + Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
