THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is actively seeking conscientious and dedicated Nurse Aides to support our nursing staff at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will perform tasks in support of carrying out individualized care plans for inmates housed at SCI Laurel Highlands. Your work will involve completing basic nursing skills and nursing procedures to maintain optimum inmate health and provide quality care. You will complete documentation as required and collect specimens as directed by the Registered Nurse for urine, feces, and sputum. Some of your duties will include completing or assisting inmates with daily living activities and hygiene, following nursing care plan orders, providing care and interventions consistent with inmate’s needs, and documenting assigned aspects of the nursing care plan. Additionally, you will participate in emergency situations by performing emergency procedures as indicated and participating in emergency response drills as assigned.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work hours will be determined from the following shifts, with rotating days off:
+ 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
+ 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
+ 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
+ Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry;or
+ Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.
Special Requirement:
+ This p osition is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.
Additional Requirements:
+ Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
+ You must be able to perform essential job functions.

+ You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
