Job Summary:
This position reports directly to the Director of Water Quality and is responsible for operational and administrative duties associated with Tidewater Utilities Cross Connection Control program. The Cross Connection Control Inspector conducts inspections at customer services for the purpose of preventing backflow of possible contaminants and pollutants into the potable water system.
Essential Work Performed:
+ Independently inspect businesses, residential homes, commercial and industrial establishments, and other types of buildings and operations which are covered by Tidewaters Cross Connection Control program
+ Inspect water inlets and points of use advising customer of necessary protective devices that must be installed and/or properly maintained
+ Conducts follow-up inspections to ensure that backflow devices/assemblies have been professionally installed and/or recommendations have been implemented
+ Manage daily client communications, data and reporting concerning inspections
+ Maintain necessary inspection reports and notices using computerized system
+ Enters data into computer system, prepares and sets up files, reviews files for completeness and accuracy, updates files as needed
+ Coordinate inspection scheduling and meet quality/quantity requirements
+ Provide for excellence in internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for customers through professional and courteous behavior and producing high quality results
+ Recommend and lead efforts to improve existing processes, quality, or client satisfaction
+ Must adhere to Company safety policies and procedures.
+ Perform other related duties as required by supervisor.
+ Assist in training.
+ Shall be required to be on-call and/or work weekends and shifts as scheduled.
Skills Required:
+ Must obtain an American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE) certification for Cross-Connection Control Surveyor (ASSE 5120) within six months from date of hire. Attend training on as needed basis to maintain certification.
+ Knowledgeable in cross connection control guidelines and/or Plumbing Code desired.
+ Working knowledge of plumbing and/or water distribution systems desired.
+ Ability to resolve issues and answer technical questions in a timely and responsive manner
+ Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
+ Ability to work with minimal supervision
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Attention to detail, understands and applies standard operating procedures and technical instructions, and is organized in office and field work
+ A working knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
+ Maintain a valid class D motor vehicle license
+ Ability to hear and conduct a two way verbal conversation
+ Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
+ Ability to write simple correspondence and complete documentation in a timely manner
+ Ability to effectively present information to peers or supervision

Physical Demands:
+ Frequent standing, sitting, walking and driving
+ Moderate ability to climb ladders, bend and step over obstacles and walking on uneven surfaces

Working Conditions:
+ Working indoors and out in all types of weather and temperatures
+ Occasionally exposed to continuous background noise, water treatment chemicals, fumes and raw sewage.

Compensation & Benefits:
+ Hourly Range: $20.52 - $30.78 hourly, based on experience and qualifications.
