**Summary of Position** - The principal purpose of the Operating Tax Manager position is to improve sales tax compliance, reduce risk associated with the collection and remittance of sales tax, research sales tax issues to minimize the sales tax we have to pay, understand our systems and how sales tax impacts them, efficiently manage sales tax audits and play a leading role in software implementations. The Operating Tax Manager will have a significant impact on our collection and remittance of sales and use tax
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
+ Manage sales tax and unclaimed property compliance, including returns, payments, and account reconciliations Draft 10-K and 10-Q tax footnotes and disclosure.
+ Ability to correctly research sku taxability and use taxability. Must be able to understand facts without much guidance and recognize opportunities. Process improvements should also be recognized, brought to management’s attention, develop plans to execute said improvements.
+ Manage sales tax and unclaimed property audits from beginning to end. Must be able to clearly explain facts to auditors. Must be able to use creativity to develop new ways to make case when the initial approach does not work. Must be innovative in addressing problems
+ Play lead role in implementing software projects to ensure the sales tax implications have been addressed and sales tax risks have been thoroughly vetted and mitigated. It is expected that the person in this position will be able to recognize issues and recommend corrective actions quickly
+ Reconciling the sales tax accounts and resolving reconciliation items. Develop department budget for memo items (sales tax related items)
+ Handle direct interactions with auditors
+ Maintain internal controls as required under Sarbanes Oxley
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
+ BA or BS degree is required
+ 5-7 yrs Sales and Use Tax experience or equivalent public accounting experience
+ Strong analytical skills
+ Strong PC skills including MS Office
+ Good interpersonal and communication skills – both written & verbal to clearly answer questions from auditors, tax department members and other company personnel
+ Good problem solving skills
Desired Qualifications
+ CPA or CMA candidate desired
+ Experience in preparing Federal and state corporate tax returns
+ Experience with tax compliance software desired
