    The Global Automation Engineering group showcases talented professionals, world-class technologies, and innovative solutions that “power” the process control and quality of Abiomed’s unique Impella heart pumps. The Embedded Software Engineer provides engineering and technical resource expertise to maximize the Global Automation Engineering group’s contribution to company performance.

     

    The Embedded Software Engineer in the Global Automation Engineering group serves as one of the leaders of the technical community, working effectively and collaboratively with all technical disciplines and functions, both internally and externally. The Embedded Software Engineer delivers new manufacturing technologies and processes, making dramatic quality and operational improvements to existing and new products. This role is responsible for developing robust software for embedded systems, working closely with hardware engineers to ensure the smooth operation of devices and systems to meet the needs of a very dynamic and technically challenging business.

     

    J&J MedTech - Abiomed is a leading provider of groundbreaking medical technology that provides circulatory and oxygenation support. The Impella® heart pump platform is designed to enable the heart to rest and recover by improving blood flow and/or temporarily assisting with the pumping function of the heart. The Abiomed Breethe OXY-1 System™ is designed to provide oxygenation while supporting patient mobility. Abiomed is based in Danvers, Massachusetts. The Danvers site is a global business HQ and product development site with all commercial and business functions co-located with all technical disciplines.     Job Responsibilities:

    + Apply experience and knowledge to bring to life state-of-the-art embedded software and fixturing technologies to the companies’ manufacturing process, specifically in support of an emerging strategy to improve manufacturing capabilities.

    + Analyze project requirements and translate them into embedded software design specifications.

    + ·Deliver the design, development, implementation and validation of robust hardware and software, and the execution of fixture designs and custom programming.

    + Write efficient, reusable embedded code that interfaces with hardware components such as sensors, actuators, and communication modules.

    + Take a rigorous, disciplined, and hands-on approach with internal production and quality partners to ensure embedded software systems and fixtures are validated and govern necessary elements of product design intent.

    + Demonstrate embedded software reliability and help in the documentation process throughout IQ, OQ, FAT, SAT and PQ efforts. Able to determine the priority and severity of final quality inspection results.

    + Partner closely with R&D to align on scope, identify success criteria, key milestones, and necessary resources to bring all assigned embedded software projects to on-time completion.

    + Resolve production issues with internal and external manufacturing and quality partners. Work with internal and external manufacturing partners to ensure scalable designs and processes.

    + Prepare, present, and lead formal/informal reviews of results, designs, and analyses, and drives alignment with peers, project team, and cross-functional stakeholders.

    + Collaborate in cross-functional teams that span global operations, communicate technical challenges, and engage in collective problem solving.

    Minimum Requirements:

    + B.S. in related engineering field

    + M.S. in a related engineering field a plus

    + ·Proficiency in programming languages such as C and C++ for embedded systems.

    + Strong understanding of embedded systems, embedded Linux and real-time operating systems (RTOS).

    + Knowledge of communication protocols (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART) and device drivers.

    + Ability to qualify, optimize and trend processes via IQ/OQ/PQ, Process Capability Studies, Designs of Experiments and Statistical Process Control.

    + Having a rigorous, disciplined and hands-on approach to test and troubleshoot product assembly challenges and develop protocols that achieve product design intent.

    + Ability to collaborate with product development engineers to ensure that product design intent is governed by automated and off-line product testing applications.

    + Ability to anticipate potential issues before they arise by relying on prior experience and gaining new industry knowledge.

    + The successful candidate will be expected to travel domestically and internationally. Length of travel will depend on the initiative being implemented and phase of the project. Anticipated travel is estimated at 10%.

    + Perform other duties as required.

    The anticipated base pay range for this position is $63,000.00 to $102,350.

     

    The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401k).This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program. Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits: Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year. Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year. Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year. Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year.
