UPMC Harrisburg is seeking full-time Medical Laboratory Scientists and Medical Laboratory Technicians to join our dynamic microbiology team. This full-time role includes day and evening shifts, with some holiday and weekend coverage. These roles are generalist opportunities that will support and rotate through all areas of the laboratory.
_*Applicants will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education. The Medical Lab Scientists salary starts at $29.07/hour._

Responsibilities:
+ Maintain professional and courteous communication with all laboratory clients and respond promptly to inquiries.
+ Adhere strictly to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety, and compliance.
+ Accurately collect, process, and analyze specimens in an efficient manner.
+ Recognize and appropriately address critical or abnormal test results in accordance with established protocols.
+ Troubleshoot instrumentation and methodological issues, performing minor repairs as necessary.
+ Conduct routine quality control, preventive maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
+ Manage reagent usage and maintain adequate supply inventory.
+ Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and physiological factors affecting test outcomes.
+ Participate in test development, methodology evaluation, and equipment implementation.
+ Independently perform High Complexity Testing as defined by regulatory standards.
+ Assume temporary supervisory responsibilities as delegated.
+ Facilitate the training and orientation of new employees, students, and residents.
Medical Lab Technician:
* Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), OR
* Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, with 6 months of clinical laboratory experience OR
* Equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing.
* Minimum 1year's experience in a hospital laboratory preferred. Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
Medical Lab Scientist:
* Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program OR;
* Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification OR;
* Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory OR;
* Prefer 1 year of experience in a hospital laboratory.
* Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification preferred.
+ Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) (ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred.
