    As the Nursing Unit Leader for the HB/SNC Unit, you will oversee and coordinate all aspects of nursing care to ensure residents receive exceptional service. You'll guide a high-functioning, cohesive team that lives out UPMC's values of compassion, excellence, and teamwork each day. This leadership role includes on-call responsibilities to provide consistent support and maintain high standards of care.

    Responsibilities:

    + Ensure individualized nursing care is provided appropriate to each patient's age and needs.

    + Oversee and coordinate all nursing care within the HB/SNC Unit in alignment with the Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act.

    + Monitor the quality, appropriateness, and accuracy of care and medical records through ongoing evaluation and review.

    + Develop and implement Standards of Care, Standards of Practice, and HB/SNC-specific nursing policies and procedures.

    + Encourage and facilitate professional growth by providing opportunities for education, training, and advancement.

    + Conduct ongoing performance appraisals and maintain a competency assessment program for nursing personnel.

    + Prepare and manage the nursing budget to ensure efficient, cost-effective operations; review monthly reports and address variances.

    + Develop staffing patterns and plans for each schedule period based on patient needs and unit activity.

    + Select and retain qualified staff to ensure the availability of a competent, compassionate nursing team.

    + Maintain open, timely communication within and between departments and promote effective working relationships.

    + Lead regular staff meetings and participate in Nursing Management and Medical Center leadership meetings.

    + Participate with the Administrator, Medical Director, and professional personnel in developing and implementing resident care policies and programs.

    + Oversee and participate in Quality Assurance and Continuous Quality Improvement programs.

    + Ensure discharge planning and teaching are coordinated with patients, families, and community resources.

    + Investigate complaints or incidents, implement corrective actions, and enforce policies, including Right-To-Know and safety requirements.

    + Maintain compliance with JCAHO, Federal, and State standards.

    + Identify hazards and ensure prompt follow-up and resolution.

    + Maintain clinical expertise and stay current with developments in medical and nursing sciences to serve as a role model and resource for staff.

    + Develop clear job descriptions defining roles and expectations for all levels of nursing personnel.

    + Participate in or lead organizational and community outreach efforts, representing UPMC Northwest's vision and mission.

    + Chair or serve on nursing and medical center committees as assigned.

    + Support strategic planning efforts within the Medical Center.

    + Provide orientation and in-service education programs for nursing staff.

    + Maintain professional growth and achieve/maintain certification in a related nursing specialty.

    + Completion of an accredited School of Nursing required; BSN preferred.

    + 3-5 years of gerontology/medical-surgical nursing experience.

    + 2-3 years of direct supervisory or management experience.

    + Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice, as well as administrative methods and procedures.

    + Working knowledge of public relations and personnel management.

    + Knowledge of skilled nursing care regulations.

    + Knowledge of Medicare reimbursement systems.

    + Demonstrated leadership and teaching ability, with strong communication skills.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state where the facility is located, or a multistate license issued through the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) if applicable. Employees relocating to a new state have 60 days to obtain state licensure.

    + CPR certification required within 30 days of hire, based on AHA standards including didactic and skills demonstration.

    + Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification due within 1 year of hire.

    + NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) certification due within 6 months of hire.
