Manager, Strategy, Penguin Random House (Onsite)
The Penguin Random House Strategy team is a fast-paced, collaborative team with a wide range of international experience across Publishing, Business Development, and Consulting. We work directly with the CEO and partner with teams across PRH in central departments, publishing divisions, and international territories to ideate, develop, and implement strategic priorities to drive growth and impact. Our scope is an ever-evolving mix of topics at the center of Publishing.
The Manager will partner with key stakeholders to support the implementation of strategic initiatives across Penguin Random House’s global portfolio in response to new opportunities, evolving industry trends, consumer behaviors, and technological innovation. Ideal candidates will take on a variety of responsibilities across projects (e.g., driving project management, conducting research and analysis, investigating new business opportunities, and helping present and communicate insights). This role is a great fit for someone who is curious, organized, and collaborative, with strong analytical and communication skills (written, spoken, and through presentations). You thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, have experience working in creative industries (book publishing preferred), have a genuine interest in partnering broadly across the organization, and are motivated to help drive projects forward to deliver meaningful results.
What you will do
As Manager, you will support strategic initiatives across global teams, working closely with publishers and other senior leadership to drive progress on high-priority projects. Every day is different, but a sample of responsibilities you can expect to cover includes:
+ Publishing Growth Initiatives
+ Partner with publishing teams to identify and prioritize growth initiatives, develop clear implementation plans, and drive their execution
+ Support change management efforts across the business by helping teams adopt new ways of working or implement cross-functional solutions
+ Global Publishing Collaboration
+ Create and run regular global forums to facilitate insights/knowledge exchange and collaboration opportunities for content growth
+ Strengthen global alignment and initiate action around shared priorities through various existing and new initiatives
+ Entrepreneurial Partnerships Growth Strategy
+ Support strategic planning and new business development initiatives for newly acquired businesses
+ Partner with business unit leaders to prioritize and identify specific pathways for new joint growth opportunities
What we’re looking for
+ 3+ years of experience with at least 1 year in Publishing; experience in a Strategy, Business Development, or Consulting role strongly preferred; alternately, for those without Publishing experience, 1 year in a relevant role with exposure to senior leaders and creatives
+ Project management skills: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple, competing priorities and projects simultaneously without losing sight of the highest priority items
+ Structured and logical thinking: Ability to structure problems, to understand the implications of strategic analysis, and to make data-supported recommendations
+ Relationship building: Ability to develop and cultivate strong relationships and manage stakeholders across the organization with influence
+ Storytelling and communication: Ability to summarize and visualize information and create compelling storylines (e.g., in Microsoft PowerPoint) tailored to different audiences (creatives, senior leadership, etc.); professional demeanor with superior written and oral communication English skills
+ A passion for books: A people-friendly mindset and enjoys books and working with creatives; a curiosity for emerging technologies, especially AI, and an ability to bridge the gap between business needs and technical possibilities
+ Analytical rigor: Strong analytical skills and ability to understand and utilize data insights for strategic decision making to develop actionable strategies and recommendations
+ Proficient Microsoft Office user, particularly with PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
