Description
The AI team within AWS is responsible for setting the AI strategy and delivering machine learning services across multiple segments and requirement to AWS customers. Today, the team delivers multiple services such as Lex, Polly, Comprehend, Translate, Transcribe, Kendra, and Contact Lens for Amazon Connect as well as ML Engines and Platform as a Service. This role will lead the product for Amazon Polly.
As a Sr. PMT - ES, you will have the opportunity to tackle several strategic and technical questions for AWS' largest customers. You’ll work with product and engineering stakeholders across multiple organizations, business development, finance, and marketing to grow the business, ideate and ship new products, and define our technical strategy. This role requires a high degree of ownership and customer obsession, business judgement, and technical leadership.
The target opportunity is massive, but also ambiguous, and this exceptional role requires an individual with a track record of shipping products, experience working with external partners and engineering teams, experience working with multiple partner teams across geographies, and stellar leadership skills to create a vision and rally teams around a common goal. The successful candidate will have a passion for innovating, have deep technical expertise, be comfortable with ambiguity, and be motivated by a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
You will be part of the larger product leadership community at Amazon and AWS. This community plays a critical role in the broad business planning, working closely with senior executives to develop business targets and resource requirements, influences our long-term technical and business strategy, helps us hire talented team of PMs and ultimately enables us to deliver innovative new solutions rapidly. You will be seen as the subject matter expert for your area of focus within Amazon AI.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead the development of the product strategy and vision supported by internal and external analysis
- Define compelling, creative, product roadmaps based on your strategy and vision
- Develop detailed, crisp business requirements and user stories that can be used to create product specifications and architecture for each product and application
- Manage prioritization and trade-offs among customer experience, performance and operational support load
- Create buy-in for the product vision both internally and with key external partners
- Work closely with engineering teams and program management to deliver products to market
- Drive product launches including working with public relations team, executives, and other product management team members
- Proactively identify and resolve strategic issues that may affect the team’s ability to meet strategic, financial, and technical goals
A day in the life
We're seeking a Senior Product Manager - External Services. In this role you will you will define, execute, and deliver a product roadmap that adds great value to AWS customers. You will participate in developing the strategy and vision for the group, and you will develop and look after product roadmaps and features based on team strategy and vision. This role is inherently cross-functional -- you will work closely with science, engineering, design, operations, finance and executive teams to bring features to market and develop and grow business opportunities for Amazon. A successful candidate will be highly analytical, able to work extremely effectively in a matrix organization, and adept at synthesizing a variety of technologies and capabilities into high quality, simple products and applications that customers love.
You should be a problem solver who is excited by hard never-been-solved before challenges, and enjoys working with science and tech teams collaboratively. You should be somebody who is passionate about leading programs that have both broad influence and unique science and technical challenges to solve, and equally comfortable interacting with business units on their business needs. You enjoy a close-knit team environment of shared responsibility. This role requires great technical expertise, and ability to dive deep into the science based challenges and solutions we solve on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will have experience leading delivery across Science and Engineering disciplines, and an established track record of delivering large complex programs as well as effectively influencing up and across the organization.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of technical product management with internet business experience
- 5+ years of working as a Technical Product Manager experience
- 3+ years of technical (software development, network development, IT, other related) experience
- 5+ years of creating written docs for development of new products experience
- 5+ years of enterprise security product experience
- 5+ years of product management in the cloud computing technology space experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, finance, or economics
- Experience in taking a product from conception & definition phase through engineering design and taking it to market
- Experience delivering large-scale SaaS, PaaS or LaaS products where you are responsible for the full product lifecycle, from concept through GTM (go to market)
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience working within teams delivering software products and features using agile methodologies
- MBA
- Experience with training and deploying machine learning systems to solve large-scale optimizations, or experience in development or technical support
- Experience with problem solving and disruptive innovation, developing technology programs and working across customer organizations
- Experience in quantitative role (engineering, process re-engineering, quality assurance), or experience in building financial and operational reports/data sets that inform business decision-making

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $137,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $236,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
