Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Independently work with Veterans and their families who are experiencing a wide range of complicated medical, psychiatric, emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial problems specific to Veteran's who are at high risk for suicide. Contributes to and participates in the VISN 19 implementation of VA's Centralized Screening Project which encompasses both clinical and community-based strategies and interventions. Provides subject matter expertise and consultation for MH RRTP Centralized Screening Project and admissions coordination at the VISN, state, and local levels. Delivers timely and relevant implementation support and training to the field Utilizes knowledge of community resources, makes referrals to the community and other government agencies as appropriate, and coordinates services. Independently conducts psychosocial assessments and treatment interventions to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diversified backgrounds. Assess and treat complicated psychosocial problems. Use a high level of skill in assessing and treating the complex factors of suicidality. Complete thorough psychosocial and mental health assessments when Veterans are referred, including clinical status. Ensure that assessments are shared with other treating providers, utilizing the biopsychosocial process in evaluation, problem identification, crisis resolution, treatment planning, and evaluation of outcomes. Provide case and care management, psychotherapy with individuals, couples, and families, crisis intervention, supportive counseling, and referral for resources and benefits. Provide consultation to other treatment teams and staff members regarding psychosocial and mental health needs of Veterans and/or their families. This will include the impact of the identified needs on the Veteran's health care planning, compliance with treatment, and discharge planning. Utilizes a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities in treatment or with specialized Veteran populations, including individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy, and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. Complete a thorough psychosocial and mental health assessments to determine the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and/or their families. Assists Veterans to maximum use of treatment for attainment of the highest level of independence that is possible and practicable. Utilize knowledge and mastery of mental health and substance abuse diagnoses and treatment procedures, including acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses to determine interventions and modalities for care and treatment, in conjunction with Veterans. Independently implement treatment modalities, provide counseling and/or supportive groups for Veterans and families. Assess and initiate emergency/crisis intervention services to outpatients experiencing acute psychological crises, helping to stabilize these individuals, assisting in the referral arrangements for transfer to a psychiatric facility for inpatient care, if necessary, and providing follow-up care as needed. Incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnoses and treatment within approved clinical privileges. Provide consultation to health care providers regarding psychosocial and mental health assessment findings and treatment planning for Veterans to ensure that care is coordinated, collaborative and integrated within the VA health care systems they serve. Completes all reporting requirements set forth by Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program and CRH. Participates as a member of an Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program National Telehealth Program treatment team and engages in active collaboration with Veterans and family as well as other interdisciplinary treatment team members. Expands clinical knowledge in the social work profession, writes policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the VISN 19 Clinical Resource Hub. Other duties as assigned. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. (c) Ability to implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups to achieve treatment goals. This requires judgment and skill in utilizing supportive, problem solving, or crisis intervention techniques. (d) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate with clients, staff, and representatives of community agencies. (e) Fundamental knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses/injuries; common medications and their effects/side effects; and medical terminology. GS-11: Experience and Licensure. Completion of a minimum of one year of post-MSW experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the field of health care or other social work-related settings, (VA or non- VA experience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. In addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required one year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services.
