    The Role

     

    Prepares and coordinates the plans and schedules for new or existing programs. Determines, monitors, and reviews costs, operational budgets and schedules, and manpower requirements. Supports and participates in negotiations with customer. Analyzes effects of projects upon various areas such as Engineering, Facilities, and the labor pool to determine the most practical and cost-efficient methods to obtain the required resources. Resolves proposal preparation problems and assesses the progress against established plans and parameters. Formulates and recommends corrective action measures such as schedule revisions, manpower adjustments, fund allocations, and work requirements.

     

    This position may require collaborative work with other internal/external design and/or test engineering personnel; including NAVSEA, Naval shipyards, General Dynamics-Electric Boat, vendors, etc. On-site resolution of issues encountered during construction or overhaul may be required, possibly resulting in some travel.

     

    Must Have

     

    Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 8 year of relevant professional experience

    One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

    + NNS Apprentice School graduate

    + Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate

    + Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience

    + Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience

    + High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience

    + High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience

     

    Nice to Have

     

    Candidate should have; a comprehensive knowledge of engineering/design processes relating to ship systems (specifically submarine propulsion plant mechanical equipment and fluid systems); have demonstrated the ability to manage and direct the work of others; and the ability to interface intelligently with trades, management and the customer. Experience is preferred with steam systems, seawater cooling systems or propulsion lube oil systems. Additional experience with various types of mechanical equipment such as turbines, gears, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, condensers, filters, seals and fasteners is desired. Candidate should have a working knowledge of all shipyard operations, including structural fabrication, component fabrication and assembly and final outfitting, and the relationship between the three. A working knowledge of dimensional control systems and practices is also highly desirable. Candidate should also have a good working knowledge and understanding of submarine fleet support work associated with USS BOISE EOH replanning efforts as this position will be heavily oriented towards accomplishment and oversight of BOISE technical work document development for the propulsion plant group within E14, as well as potential support for overall department needs related to this effort.

     

    Effective oral and written communication skills are important for this position. Technical submittals of design proposals, calculations and analyses, drawing reviews, presentations, operating instructions, test procedures, maintenance procedures, work deferral requests, departure from specification requests, etc. will be required. Specific knowledge of SUBSAFE requirements is required.
