The Role

This position will lead / manage E33's Submarine Fleet Support team. This team is tasked with technical oversight and deckplate support for coatings, SHT, and structural URO-MRC processes for in-service submarines. Responsibilities of the team include availability planning, interpretation of requirements / specifications and issuance of technical work direction, engineering evaluation of URO-MRC structural inspections and as-arrived coating assessments, deckplate support, OQE review, procedure review / modification, attendance of production meetings / pre-job briefings, and other related tasks. Additional responsibilities may include input for planning / scoping efforts, development / maintenance of manning plans, and representing the company in meetings with the customer. The candidate should be well versed in shipyard operations; have a working knowledge of submarine URO-MRC, SUBSAFE / REC, Coatings, and SHT requirements; and possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective communication is required across a range of audiences, including both internal and external customers.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

The following are strongly preferred:

• Surface preparation, coatings, and SHT process knowledge

• Strong understanding of SUBSAFE program requirements

• Working knowledge of structural URO-MRC requirements

• Experience with coatings, SHT, and weld OQE & associated procedures

• Ability to delegate work in a manner that promotes employee development and diversified experience
