Job Description:
The **Navy Directorate for Information Dominance** is consolidating all Tier-1 IT service desks and moving from a human-centered Subject Matter Expert (SME) based business model to a business model using a Knowledge-Based (KM) solution called **Navy Enterprise Service Desk (NESD).** We are seeking a **Conversational AI Engineer** to join our team.
The main goals of NESD are to consolidate IT Tier-1 service desks to include all the current people, processes, and technology while gaining efficiencies of consolidation. The capability shall employ artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing to create an adaptive Virtual Helpdesk Agent. This knowledge-learning process is essential to handle the many current systems supported by NESD that may have multiple deployed versions of each system operating in the Fleet.
MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
As the **Associate AI/ML Engineer** , you will work with data engineers, machine learning engineers and data scientists to create AI functionality into existing applications. You will also maintain those systems to make sure that everything is running smoothly. Some of the duties that you will manage include:
+ Assist in the design, development, and testing of conversational ai/agentic functionalities, including conversation flows, knowledge base integration, and natural language understanding (NLU) components.
+ Write clean, efficient, and well documented code in accordance with coding standards and best practices.
+ Contribute to the development of custom integrations between conversational AI and other enterprise systems.
+ Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other team members.
+ Work with large language models (LLMs) to fine-tune prompts and improve agent performance.
+ Work closely with senior developers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
+ Stay up to date on the latest trends and technologies in AI, agentic systems, and natural language processing.
+ Actively participate in team meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Bring your expertise and drive for innovation to GDIT. The **Associate AI/ML Engineer** must have:
+ **Security Clearance Level:** DoD Secret eligible (Active Secret clearance preferred)
+ **Required Experience:** Up to 1 year of preferred experience with the following
+ Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript).
+ Basic understanding of Agile software development methodology, software development principles, including object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.
+ Familiarity with web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus.
+ Understanding of APIs and RESTful services.
+ Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
+ Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
+ Knowledge of database concepts and SQL.
+ **Required Certification:** Qualifying certification to meet DoD IAT level II access requirements
+ **Education:** Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science

The likely salary range for this position is $65,250 - $86,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

Paid leave and paid holidays are prorated based on the employee’s date of hire.
