    Corporate Facilities & Engineering Senior Manager

     

    What you will do

In this vital role, you will be supporting a world class Global Facilities and Equipment Maintenance and Calibration program applying CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System). You will possess the ability to interact with various departments/teams and other Amgen sites in support of program. The corporate SME (Subject Matter Expert) provides support to various client groups in the development, configuration, maintenance, training and administration of Maintenance/Calibration program. Responsible for the overall design, development, and delivery of world class maintenance/calibration program.

     

    Designs and configures CMMS and its various modules and components to meet business process and reporting requirements and ensures optimum system performance. Design’s corporate and site specific metric and business reports from CMMS (Maximo) and other sources. Ensure effective use of hand-held technology. Develops and maintains documentation in support of system training and operations. Conducts training to end users and crafts personnel on use of CMMS (Maximo) mobile technology. Serve as lead in support of Job Plan, Data Sheet, procedures and work practices. This position will provide support in a regulated and non-regulated environment.

     

    The Metrology Manager leads and oversees the operations of the site metrology laboratory, ensuring compliance with Amgen’s Global Calibration Program and applicable regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will have a consistent track record in managing a standards-level laboratory supporting a multidisciplinary environment — including AC/DC electrical, pressure/vacuum, mass, optics, temperature, humidity, dimensional, torque, liquid/gas flow, and particulate measurement systems.

     

    This role is accountable for maintaining calibration integrity, ensuring measurement traceability to national/international standards, and driving metrology excellence through process automation, continuous improvement, and personnel development.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Leadership and Strategy

    + Develop and implement strategic and tactical goals for the Metrology function aligned with global and site quality objectives.

    + Drive standardization, harmonization, and continuous improvement across all metrology processes, systems, and calibration methods.

    + Lead the site in Amgen’s Global Metrology and Calibration Network; ensure global alignment on standards, policies, and technical practices.

    + Lead CMMS transition project for SAP/EAM and deliver calibration capabilities

    Operations Management

    + Oversee daily metrology laboratory operations, ensuring timely and accurate calibration services across all measurement subject areas.

    + Ensure calibration intervals, tolerances, and environmental controls are established, validated, and maintained per internal and regulatory requirements.

    + Manage calibration schedules and equipment lifecycle, ensuring preventive maintenance, repair, and replacement strategies are executed effectively.

    + Maintain the laboratory’s ISO/IEC 17025 compliance readiness and support internal and external audits.

    + Establish/manage metrology department budget

    Technical and Quality Oversight

    + Collaborate with internal/external regulatory audits and represent calibration program

    + Provide expert technical support to Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Process Development, and Facilities teams for metrology-related activities.

    + Approve and review calibration deviations, out-of-tolerance conditions, and measurement uncertainty evaluations; implement corrective/preventive actions.

    + Develop, review, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, and Calibration Job Plans.

    + Ensure calibration data integrity and compliance with ALCOA+ principles.

    Automation and Digital Systems

    + Oversee implementation and maintenance of computerized calibration management systems (e.g., Maximo, SAP Enterprise Asset Management- EAM, or equivalent).

    + Ensure secure data management, system validation, and electronic record compliance per 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP5 guidelines.

    + Drive metrology digital transformation through automated test systems, remote monitoring, and electronic documentation workflows.

    Personnel and Training

    + Supervise, coach, and develop Metrologists and Calibration Technicians; establish individual development plans and cross-training initiatives.

    + Manage performance reviews, workload distribution, and resource planning for direct and contract staff.

    + Own calibration training program for Amgen.

    + Foster a safety-first culture with emphasis on precision, quality, and compliance.

    Supplier and Asset Management

    + Manage relationships with calibration service providers, test equipment manufacturers, and external laboratories.

    + Evaluate and qualify vendors to ensure traceability to NIST or equivalent standards.

    + Oversee procurement and budgeting for calibration and test equipment, ensuring optimal asset utilization.

    Basic Qualifications:

    + Doctorate degree and 2 years of Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience OR

    + Master’s degree and 4 years of Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience OR

    + Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience OR

    + Associate’s degree and 10 years of Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience OR

    + High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Minimum of **8–10 years of experience** in metrology operations within a regulated environment (biotech, pharmaceutical, aerospace, or equivalent).

    + Experience managing or operating within an **ISO/IEC 17025 accredited** calibration laboratory preferred.

    + Demonstrated application of advanced measurement principles, calibration uncertainty analysis, and root cause investigations.

    + Experience with **automated calibration systems** , **electronic calibration management databases** , and **regulatory inspection readiness** .

    + Expert knowledge of **metrology principles** , **traceability** , **measurement uncertainty** , and **statistical analysis** .

    + Strong understanding of **FDA** , **GMP** , **ISO 9001** , and **ISO/IEC 17025** requirements.

    + Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills.

    + Proficiency with calibration management software and Microsoft Office suite.

    + Ability to interpret complex technical documentation and lead cross-functional problem-solving efforts.

    The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
