ABOUT THE JOB!
This role is dedicated to the refinement, creation, and construction of prototypes, assembly fixtures, tooling, and production hardware. This support is integral to the development and production of electro-mechanical and electro-acoustic products.
The position involves the precision machining of complex prototype and production machined parts and tooling, achieved through the adept programming, setup, and operation of computer numerical control (CNC), vertical mill, lathe, and conventional metal working machines. The incumbent diligently upholds quality and safety standards, while also overseeing supplies and equipment management. The ability to translate technical information from verbal requests, rough sketches, or part drawings is paramount in executing projects of high complexity, ensuring the delivery of exceptional and precise hardware.
Gentex offers a robust benefit package- including, but not limited to, medical coverages, 401k, paid time off and excellent work schedules including a 9/80 work week.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Champion adherence to machine shop safety guidelines and policies. Monitor fellow employees in the area to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
• Review mechanical drawings, concepts, and ideas. Provide valuable design for manufacturability feedback, offering options and alternatives for consideration.
• Program, set up, and operate 3-axis CNC milling machine and CNC Lathe based on drawings, 3D models, and oral instructions. Machine custom tooling, prototype components, and execute production part modifications.
• Set up and operate surface grinder, bandsaws, and various hand tools with precision. Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing manual machining equipment for diverse applications.
• Recommend and select appropriate raw materials, tooling, and supporting hardware to effectively complete assigned projects. Ensure optimal resource utilization for efficient and cost-effective outcomes.
• Perform basic preventative maintenance and repairs on machine equipment to ensure continuous functionality. Conduct routine checks to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
• Provide production part rework, tooling repair, light fabrication, and mechanical evaluation as required. Ensure that reworked components meet quality standards and specifications.
• Utilize SolidWorks and CAM to process 2D/3D models and generate G-code for machining operations. Leverage computer-aided design and manufacturing tools for precision and efficiency.
• Offer support on production equipment repair and upgrades.
• Collaborate with the production team to ensure seamless operation and address any technical challenges promptly.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Strong hands-on experience in the safe operation of 3-Axis milling, turning, sawing, and grinding equipment. Demonstrated ability to produce precision components using manual machining techniques.
• Proficient in interpreting mechanical drawings, dimensions, and tolerancing according to ASME Y14.5 standards. Ability to translate design specifications into accurate and high-quality machined components.
• Working knowledge of mathematics for computing dimensions, angles, threads, speeds, feeds, etc. Ability to perform calculations to ensure accurate machining processes.
• Proficient in programming CNC machines using conversational language (e.g., ProtoTRAK, ACU-RITE). Ability to set up and troubleshoot CNC programs for optimal efficiency.
• Proficient in using mechanical inspection equipment, including calipers, height gauges, and other precision tools. Thorough understanding of quality control measures to ensure the accuracy of machined components.
• General knowledge of materials, tooling, and work holding techniques. Ability to select appropriate tools and materials for specific machining processes.
• Capable of providing manufacturability feedback to engineering teams to enhance quality and reduce costs. Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Functional ability to use a Windows PC for tasks such as email, intranet access, and documentation lookup. Familiarity with basic computer applications is essential for daily operations.
