**Position Overview:** We are seeking an experienced Manager of Cost Accounting to join our finance team. In this critical role, you will oversee all aspects of cost accounting operations within Simon & Schuster. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strategic decision-making, and cost management practices. You will also supervise a team of three.

Key Responsibilities:

+ **Cost Analysis and Reporting:** Analyze production costs, distribution costs, and other related expenses to provide accurate and timely cost information to management.

+ **Budgeting and Forecasting:** Assist in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts by providing insights into cost drivers and trends.

+ **Variance Analysis:** Conduct variance analysis to identify deviations from budgeted or standard costs and recommend corrective actions as necessary.

+ **Inventory Management:** Monitor inventory levels and valuation, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.

+ **Process Improvement:** Continuously evaluate and improve cost accounting processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

+ **Financial Compliance:** Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements related to cost accounting and inventory valuation.

+ **Accounting and Controls:** Oversee all aspects of cost and inventory accounting , including reconciliation to subsidiary ledgers, establishment of reserves, research cost and price variances, reconcile perpetual to physical inventories, perform standard cost reviews, assess Plant costs. Ensure the integrity of a book’s journey from Raw Materials, to WIP, to Finished Goods.

+ **Cross-functional Collaboration:** Work closely with production, procurement, and other departments to gather data, resolve issues, and support business decisions.

Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

+ CPA or CMA is helpful but not required.

+ Progressive experience in cost accounting.

+ Strong understanding of manufacturing and inventory costing principles.

+ Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.

+ Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

+ Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
