The Role
Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.
This position is in support of the U.S. Navy’s GERALD R. FORD Class Aircraft Carrier propulsion plant planning yard (PPPY), whose Engineered Components team is responsible for maintaining the design of complex mechanical and electrical machinery within the propulsion plant. Design maintenance includes project management of new design efforts often contracted through sub-tier suppliers. Candidate will be expected to perform the following:
• Manage project scope (multi-year design projects)
• Develop and maintain Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) – MS Project
• Establish funding requirements (Multi-million dollar projects)
• Work with Program Offices and customer to receive and maintain project funding
• Work with Buying Office to establish Purchase Orders and manage suppliers
• Chair regular meetings with internal teams, customers, suppliers, and stakeholders
• Provide monthly briefings on project health
• Oversee supplier performance (cost, schedule, scope)
• Drive accountability for contract deliverables
• Apply risk and opportunity management; advise leadership on risks and issues
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 4 year of relevant professional experience
One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:
+ NNS Apprentice School graduate
+ Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
+ Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
+ Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
+ High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
+ High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
Nice to Have
• Experience supporting Navy/DoD programs, preferably Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, that includes interfacing with NAVSEA and its prime contractors, equipment suppliers, and shipyard trades and engineering
• Strong MS Project experience
• General technical knowledge or experience managing engineering projects
• PMP Certification
