THE POSITION
Do you have a sharp eye for uncovering fraudulent or abusive activity? The State Workers' Insurance Fund (SWIF) is looking for a Special Investigator Trainee to join our Financial Management Division. In this role, you will assist in the prevention, identification, and investigation of insurance fraud and abuse involving workers’ compensation claimants, policyholders, vendors, and medical providers. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Special Investigator Trainee, your work is dedicated to uncovering and analyzing potential fraud and abuse involving the workers' compensation system. Work involves gathering facts, examining documents, and conducting interviews to identify questionable information and determine courses of action. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with SWIF staff, other Commonwealth agencies, and law enforcement entities to request information and collect data related to investigations. Additional responsibilities include:
+ Using databases to verify information
+ Corresponding with private investigators and surveillance companies
+ Responding to inquiries regarding status of investigations
+ Preparing detailed reports and maintaining up-to-date case files
+ Assisting lead investigators in identifying control system weaknesses

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Scranton. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ A bachelor’s degree that includes 12 credits in criminal justice or a closely related field; or
+ An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 credits in criminal justice or a closely related field.
+ Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

+ You must demonstrate the ability to adhere to the values and ethics of the Department of Labor and Industry.
+ You must demonstrate the ability to work with professionalism, discretion, and good work ethic.
+ You must have solid written and verbal communication skills.
+ You must show initiative and problem-solving skills
+ You must be able to perform essential job functions.
