Job Summary
The Senior Category Manager is responsible for initiating, developing, integrating and managing strategic, commercial and contractual activities in support of Vistra’s objectives. This position will execute category strategies as well as have responsibility for commercial implementation and on-going management from inception to project completion. The position will liaison between all departments, including but not limited to development, finance, risk, tax, technology services and operations to ensure identified value is realized and retained. The position will leverage and develop new and existing supplier relationships ensuring maximum value is achieved on behalf of Vistra. The position is expected to demonstrate broad-based and effective knowledge of all aspects of the sourcing and procurement processes, as well as optimize process efficiency using continuous improvement methodologies, tools and project management skills.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities:
•Develop and implement key category strategies for high impact, usage and/or spend areas
•Develop and maintain key supplier relationships for category responsibilities.
•Develop performance metrics and hold suppliers accountable for deliverables.
•Initiate, plan and execute strategic business reviews for key categories.
•Collaborate effectively, deliver timely information and provide recommendations
•Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships to ensure that centrally driven strategies align with business objectives.
•Support and promote Vistra’s Supplier Diversity program through outreach and supplier development activities.
•Track performance within each spend category and measure value directly attributed to budgets along with other forms of value creation
•Influence teams through fact-based discussions, including developing clear and concise business cases
•Conduct market analysis to maintain insights related to commodities and other supply chain relevant topics including supplier health, ESG and adverse media.
•Set up projects including stakeholder identification, team formation and resource planning
•Drive best practices across all Vistra segments for assigned sourcing categories
•Build and nurture teaming environment with supply chain colleagues through excellent communication, open collaboration and exceptional behavioral modeling
•Oversee, mentor and provide tools that support the execution of sourcing strategies
Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements:
•7+ years Category Management experience
•Demonstrates expert knowledge and ability to develop and execute category strategies for complex categories including ability to lead cross-functional teams to develop new category management approaches
•Expert at sourcing as demonstrated by ability to independently run large complex (multi-site, multi cultural, high risk) OPEX and CAPEX sourcing projects
•Expert negotiator that can lead large cross-functional negotiation teams and negotiate across multiple negotiation points
•Demonstrates expert knowledge and ability to work with complex contract language including the ability to craft proposed legal language
•Expert knowledge of all total cost methods including ability to develop complex should-cost models, business case development and ability to execute value analysis/value engineering
•Expert at managing projects and associated activities including leveraging critical path analysis to optimize resource
•Recognized as capable of working effectively across multiple business units, ability to craft /deliver presentations to senior executives and deliver innovative solutions that support Supply Chain and company goals
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills
Key Metrics:
Budgetary improvements realized through commercial, reliability and productivity levers through recurring and standalone projects
Improved operational performance including transactional automation, process improvements, relationship development and issue resolution
Mentoring, nurturing and promoting the inclusion of small and diverse businesses through competitive and growth opportunities
Manage supplier risk and performance including safety through regular business reviews and learning events to identify corrective actions
