    Job Summary

    Operates radio broadcast board for KUER as an on-call fill-in host during weekday or weekend shifts as needed, delivering local newscasts and playing back program segments and other audio. Fill-in hosting may include all KUER shifts. Hosting is done on-site at KUER facility.

     

    Category I: Mandatory Required on Campus or at Health Care Facilities.

     

    Main Campus staff: Employees and/or functions designated as mandatory, requiring employees to be physically located on campus in order to maintain campus systems and operations if they are healthy without symptoms.

     

    U of U Health Academics Faculty and Staff: All employees necessary for the direct on- site support of clinical operations, patient care, and essential research activities if they are healthy without COVID -19 symptoms.

    Responsibilities

    + Operates radio broadcast board on an on-call, fill-in basis for KUER . Shifts include weekday mornings from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.; weekday middays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; or weekday afternoons from 3 pm. to 7 pm.; and weekend shifts between the hours of 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    + Organizes, writes and delivers multiple local newscasts, live on-air during each shift.

    + Introduces and plays back long-form local feature stories.

    + Plays back underwriting messages, show promotions and other audio during local breaks.

    + Responsible for making seamless transitions between national broadcast and local newscasts and breaks.

    + Assists in operating the board during KUER fund drives.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Broadcasting, or a related field, and one year of previous professional experience in the news field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Demonstrated oral and written communications skills and an understanding of Public Radio and radio broadcasting required.

     

    Preferences

     

    + Two or more years of experience as a morning or afternoon anchor at a public radio station or similar news environment

    + Experience with Wide Orbit automation system

    + Experience using Burli newscast software

    + Familiarity with NPR programs and news magazines
