Description
The Philosophy Department at Carnegie Mellon University seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track, appointment of any rank beginning Fall 2026. The department seeks candidates whose research interfaces significantly with that of the CMU-CLeaR (https://www.cmu.edu/dietrich/causality/) group and the Tetrad (https://www.cmu.edu/dietrich/philosophy/tetrad/) initiative. While Areas of Specialization/Areas of Competence are open, candidates who work in Causal Learning and Reasoning, Philosophy of Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Machine Learning, Quantitative Social Sciences, or at their intersections are especially encouraged to apply. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualifications
The Department of Philosophy strongly supports interdisciplinary and collaborative research. The successful candidate may have a PhD from any discipline, but must show significant engagement with philosophical or foundational issues. The standard teaching load is 3.5 courses per year over 2 semesters, both undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as other non-teaching responsibilities.
