    This position is eligible for hybrid telework. Employees living within 50 miles of the primary work location will be required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month. Employees may reside outside the state of Minnesota if they live in a state bordering Minnesota and are within 50 miles of the primary work location.     This position serves as the subject matter expert for the Plumbing Plan Review and Plumbing Inspections Units, overseeing all plumbing-specific components of the plan review application process, permitting workflows, and electronic document management systems.

    This position will:

    + Ensure that plumbing-related services are delivered in accordance with applicable laws, codes, policies, and procedures.

    + Be responsible for evaluating plumbing plan review application packages for completeness and technical accuracy, including verification of plumbing code compliance and coordination with other construction disciplines as needed.

    + Validate proposed plumbing construction valuations to ensure they accurately reflect the scope of work, fixture counts, and code requirements.

    + Manage the electronic interface for uploading and tracking construction documents, ensuring proper categorization, file integrity, and metadata tagging, while also providing technical support to applicants and internal staff using the permitting and plan review software systems.

    + Develop and maintain plumbing-specific reports for the Plumbing Plan Review and Plumbing Inspections Supervisors, including application volumes, processing times, valuation trends, and tribal land activity.

    + Support the Code Services Unit on an as-needed basis and collaborates with other code disciplines to ensure integrated compliance across building systems.

    + Additional duties may be assigned to support the Department of Labor and Industry’s mission to regulate and enforce construction-related health and safety codes in new and existing structures.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Two years of experience in plumbing plan review, permitting, code enforcement or a closely related field involving technical review of construction documents. Work should demonstrate:

     

    + Ability to triage plumbing plan review application packages to ensure completeness and readiness for technical review.

    + Skill in analysis sufficient to collect, interpret, and report on plumbing plan review and permitting data to ensure consistency, accuracy, and operational efficiency.

    + Ability to provide technical support for plumbing plan review and permitting processes through responsive communication and expert guidance.

    + Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience with Minnesota laws, rules, policies, processes, and procedures related to plumbing plan review, permitting, and inspections.

    + Knowledge of Construction Code and Licensing statutes, regulations, requirements, and work processes sufficient to read, interpret, and apply compliance provisions of the program, and recommend changes for continuous improvement.

    + Experience with iMS, Project Dox, and PlansAnywhere.

    + Experience reading and interpreting plumbing construction documents and related materials to determine completeness and conformance with applicable statutes, rules, and plumbing codes.

    + Expert knowledge of regulated industries relevant to plumbing systems, including plumbing contractors, mechanical contractors, fire sprinkler contractors, fire alarm contractors, and licensed design professionals.

    + Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).
