    Job Summary

The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for the prestigious Horne Endowed Professorship in Accounting, a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position beginning August 2026. This distinguished scholar will also serve as Associate Director of Research for the School of Accountancy, providing leadership in advancing the school’s research reputation. Based on our Hattiesburg, MS campus, the position may also include teaching at the Gulf Park campus (Long Beach, MS) and/or online/hybrid delivery formats.

We seek an accomplished scholar with a record of research excellence, teaching distinction, and commitment to mentoring colleagues and students. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future direction of research in the School of Accountancy, influence the next generation of scholars, and enhance the visibility of the School on a national and international stage.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

+ Research Leadership: Publish in leading accounting journals, enhance the School of Accountancy’s research profile, and mentor faculty in scholarly pursuits. The successful candidate will be expected to foster a culture of high-impact research, secure recognition for the School’s work through collaborations and presentations at premier conferences, and serve as a visible leader in the global accounting research community. By guiding both junior faculty and graduate students, this individual will help strengthen the pipeline of accounting scholars while positioning the School as a hub for innovative research.

+ Teaching Excellence: Deliver high-quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate accounting courses in our bachelor's in Accounting, Master of Professional Accountancy, and/or Master of Business Administration, across in-person, hybrid, and online formats. All areas of teaching will be considered, but the need is greatest in financial accounting.

+ Service & Accreditation: Contribute to the School, College, University, the academy, and profession. Support the School’s separate AACSB accounting accreditation through engagement in continuous improvement and assurance of learning. Service is a vital element of faculty responsibility, as it ensures that the School remains connected to professional, academic, and community stakeholders. Active participation in AACSB accreditation not only sustains our reputation for excellence but also drives innovation in curriculum and assessment, ensuring that students graduate with relevant, high-quality preparation for their careers.

+ Collegial Engagement: Demonstrate a collaborative, team-oriented approach while supporting student success and faculty development. The individual selected must demonstrate a collegial and team-oriented approach to research, teaching, and service. School of Accountancy faculty are actively engaged in scholarly, professional, and pedagogical research to extend the knowledge boundaries of the accounting discipline while maintaining currency in their academic/professional areas(s) of accounting expertise and the School of Accountancy's curriculum. In addition to excelling in research, the successful candidate must be devoted to teaching excellence at the graduate and undergraduate levels and must demonstrate a commitment to student success.
