This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an **Early Career Environmental Engineer** for a full-time position in our Site Investigation and Remediation Team in the **Jacksonville, FL – Baymeadows Road** office.
Provides support to technical staff and project managers for due diligence, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects. Primary tasks may include conducting geophysical surveys, collecting environmental samples from various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor), and conducting site exploration and geologic logging using a variety of drilling techniques. Secondary task may include assisting with the delineation and monitoring of known areas of soil and/or groundwater contamination, performing calculations to contaminated waste disposal, pollution control, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of air, water, and land resources.
Your Impact
+ Adhere to strict standard operating procedures for collection of environmental samples (groundwater, soil, sediment, surface water, and soil gas samples) and oversee subcontractors in the field (e.g., drillers).
+ Complete detailed field notes and other forms of documentation to accurately capture field activities and observations.
+ Operate and maintain environmental field instruments including water level meters, turbidity meters, and multiparameter water quality meters.
+ Install and maintain remediation systems.
+ Assist and coordinate project planning with laboratories, drillers, and equipment vendors as needed.
+ Communicate with staff, management, clients, and regulators or on-site personnel effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
+ Perform assigned office duties including field equipment maintenance, equipment restocking, instrument repair and service requests, field data entry, presentation of data, and other technical support tasks.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
+ The position will include approximately 50% field work and occasional travel. Travel can include weeks at a time or be a few days per week.
Who You Are
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
+ Ability to safely lift 40 pounds.
+ Proficient Microsoft Office products.
+ Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
+ Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
+ Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
+ Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
+ Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Engineer-in-Training Certification.
+ OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required.
+ Aptitude for diagnosis and repair of mechanical field equipment.
+ Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
+ A member of and/or actively participates in local professional practice organizations.
