Work Classification:
**Hybrid:** This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
Our team develops and delivers world-class vehicle dynamics performance to our customers through innovative Active Chassis Controls features. The Calibration Engineer is responsible for calibrating actively controlled chassis technologies to provide safe and confident vehicle performance to the end user.
Active Chassis calibration is highly dynamic work involving significant hands-on time spent driving, evaluating and calibrating vehicles, deep technical analysis of the resulting data, and efforts to continually enhance the underlying algorithm, controls and processes. In addition to in-vehicle work, calibration engineers utilize advanced tools to achieve their goals including vehicle simulation environments, HiL benches and DiL simulators. The engineers accomplish this work among a collaborative team of peer calibrators, algorithm specialists, HiL engineers, system feature owners and performance engineers.
Candidates should possess experience with vehicle control systems, in-vehicle performance evaluation, vehicle dynamics, calibration experience in a complex technology area, along with demonstrated planning, communication, teamwork, and prioritization skills.
What You'll Do:
+ Champion the safety of GM’s employees and customers
+ Tune and integrate chassis controls diagnostics and features to meet vehicle performance requirements per program timing
+ Develop tuning strategies and optimize calibrations through data collection and detailed analysis of chassis performance, vehicle dynamics, and controls behavior
+ Maintain an advanced technical knowledge of the physics affecting vehicle dynamics and chassis controls performance
+ Develop refined integration between chassis and propulsion controls
+ Work closely with the Controls/Algo team to identify controls changes and future enhancements, develop solutions, and inform the timing of needed changes
+ Utilize a broad array of environments (Vehicle, Simulation, HIL, DIL) to perform assignments
+ Take ownership of identifying, communicating, and resolving vehicle issues
+ Work with performance engineers to seek feedback and ensure performance meets VTS/SSTS
+ Maintain knowledge of the program’s controls development timing, milestone deliverables, and buy off rides
+ Support calibration processes, including Calibration Execution Guides, peer reviews and Chief Engineer reviews, master calibrations, calibration documentation to GDM, etc.
+ Work to improve the processes and tools used to develop and release Active Chassis calibrations
+ Represent Active Chassis Calibration on development test trips
**Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)** :
+ BS in Engineering
+ 2+ years of post graduation experience in chassis controls, vehicle dynamics, driveline, propulsion, calibration, vehicle performance, or similar
+ Demonstrated ability to manage the development and integration of complex controls features
+ Ability to analyze objective and subjective technical data and efficiently derive required changes to meet vehicle performance targets
+ Experienced in data acquisition and analysis
+ Demonstrated initiative to drive for results in areas of innovation and new development
+ Possess a valid driver’s license, and ability to obtain GM Level 3 driving certification
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
+ MS in Engineering
+ 5+ years of post graduation experience in chassis controls, vehicle dynamics, driveline, propulsion, calibration, vehicle performance, or similar
+ Experience in chassis controls development
+ Knowledgeable in vehicle dynamics, subjective evaluation
+ Experience with controls / algorithm development
+ Current GM Level 2+ driver or similar
+ Performance or Off-Road driving enthusiast
+ Experience with calibration tools like MATLAB/Simulink, ETAS, INCA, CRETA, etc.
+ Experience with calibration processes
+ Experience with simulation tools (CarSim, CarMaker)
