About the Division of Rheumatology
With 6 faculty and 3 fellows, the Division provides comprehensive care for patients with complex rheumatologic conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, scleroderma, and other connective tissue diseases.
Faculty deliver high-quality care across three of UTMB’s campuses — Galveston, League City, and Clear Lake— in a multidisciplinary approach to managing systemic diseases. The Division’s infusion center further enhance diagnostic accuracy and treatment precision for patients requiring advanced therapeutic care.
The ACGME-accredited Rheumatology Fellowship Program offers broad exposure to both inpatient and outpatient rheumatology, as well as training in immunology, diagnostic imaging, and clinical research. Fellows benefit from one-on-one mentorship, diverse patient experiences, and participation in interdisciplinary conferences designed to strengthen diagnostic reasoning and clinical judgment.
UTMB is seeking a full-time physician at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice within the Division of Rheumatology. This position emphasizes high-quality clinical care, active participation in teaching, and engagement in the academic mission of the department. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty dedicated to delivering exceptional infectious disease care, advancing clinical education, and participating in scholarly and quality improvement initiatives
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Provide comprehensive outpatient and/or inpatient care in Rheumatology.
• Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and other learners in both clinical and didactic settings.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes.
• Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and other academic programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• M.D. or equivalent with Board certification in Rheumatology
• Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in an academic medical center or teaching environment.
• Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, quality improvement projects, or curriculum development.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.
