This position provides PART-TIME support to the Metering Department . Selected candidates will work PART-TIME up to a maximum of 1000 hours per calendar year.

Under indirect and intermittent supervision, to do work requiring average skill in installing and removing self contained single phase and polyphase residential or commercial AC watt-hour meters up to and including 240 volts and 50 amperes, and including water heater meters; to do such work alone, but on larger and more difficult installations to work as helper to a Power Meterman, usually, to work on de-energized circuits but as required when assisting a Power Meterman, to work on energized lines up to 480 volts; to make electric service connections to buildings and make loop connections; as assigned to turn on and cut off electric service; incidental thereto to drive an automobile carrying equipment and supplies; and to do similar and less skilled work as required. In this connection to perform details of work, such as:

Install and remove single phase and polyphase AC meters including minor wiring immediately associated with the meter. Occasionally, do this work on energized circuits up to 480 volts when assisting a Power Meterman.

Make electric service connections to buildings; test out for proper voltage, phase and polarity, and make proper loop connections.

As assigned, turn on and cut off electric service.

Make simple repairs to AC customers’ wiring and meter enclosures, such as taping up defective insulation, replacing glass in meter enclosures, straightening bent enclosure side panels, etc.

As assigned, assist Power Metermen in the performance of their duties.

Prepare special reports and fill in all required forms pertaining to such items as materials, time and meter data.

Occasionally, connect and disconnect AC customers’ service supply in conduit junction boxes.

As required, collect special overdue accounts from AC customers.

As assigned, make inventory of AC customers’ connected load.

Maintain required material stock on truck.

SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

For service continuity to the extent that workmanship must be of high quality, for seeing that other customer equipment is not interrupted, and for properly turning on or turning off service.

For careful use and custody of equipment carried on truck, including meter and tools.

For observing safety rules to avoid injury to self and others in the immediate vicinity.

In emergency for quickly and accurately executing orders.

For correctly connecting AC meters.

Employees accepting the meter installer position must achieve an 80% grade on the written exam for each training module completed during meter installer training. Employees must demonstrate proficiency in completing the work tasks associated with meter installer position through on the job training. Field meter supervision will complete an on the job training evaluation for each meter installer training module.

Hourly Pay:

Grade Step IA 051 Step 1 of 1 (Top Step) - 45.74 USD
