Summary:
The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will learn what is necessary to provide leadership and technical expertise in order to specialize in safety, health & environmental programs at Boulder Scientific Company. They will learn how to handle hazardous waste and complete procedures for waste characterization, processing and disposal. This person will be working directly with the BSC Health & Safety Specialists and Environmental Technicians in an effort to eliminate, prevent, or reduce the occurrence of safety and health issues, perform warehouse inventory management, maintenance and cleanup activities and facilitate the development and maintenance of behaviors, attitudes and a safety culture that supports the goals of the Company’s EHS&S programs. This role will require a combination of office and field work experience and competencies.
Job Responsibilities
+ Learns how to provide effective Health and Safety Training for new hire orientation and periodic refresher courses
+ Conducts ergonomic risk assessments in the new Velocity EHS platform
+ Participates in updating standard operating procedures and reviewing
+ Understands how to use atmospheric testing equipment which includes maintenance and calibrations
+ Knowledgeable in the maintenance and calibration of supplied air monitoring equipment
+ Provide input and suggestions into LOTO / CSE / Hot Work programs
+ Ensures Health and Safety Training content is up to date, accurate, and consistent with the needs of the business
+ Learns/knows plant processes sufficiently to effectively characterize and manage process wastes
+ Participates in incident investigations and facilitates identification of causal factors as well as corrective and preventive actions to prevent reoccurrence
+ Assists in conducting IH sampling and facilitates third party IH monitoring
+ Reviews, updates, and maintains OSHA logs
+ Organizes and reviews data for entry into Velocity EHS data management software; primary administrator of the data management software
+ Compiles EHS data and analyses for trends
+ Ensures security and confidentiality of EHS documents and data
+ Assists in the management of MSDS/SDS Program for materials used, received and/or processed at the facility
+ Learns how to manage chemical and noise exposure monitoring programs
+ Takes part in Employee Safety Committee
+ Conducts safety and health audits & assist in closure of action items
+ Helps to develop and implement emergency response procedures
+ Labels hazardous waste containers as appropriate to maintain compliance with labeling regulations and times
+ Conducts daily environmental inspections to ensure facility compliance with applicable permits and local, state, and federal regulations.
+ Performs and documents inspections related to RCRA, CAA, LDAR, Stormwater, and SPCC programs, maintaining accurate records to ensure regulatory adherence.
+ Maintains inventory of environmental and health & safety supplies to ensure operational readiness and regulatory compliance.
+ Collects environmental samples across various media (e.g., soil, water, air) to support regulatory compliance and monitoring programs.
+ Must have a general chemistry background and undergo required RCRA and DOT training to create waste determinations and waste stream profiles.
+ Develop inspection checklists from existing safety and environmental programs in the format required for the EHS data management software
+ Basic understanding of BSC batch Records to identify where samples are collected, and waste are generated within the procedure and must maintain a database of all waste streams that require disposal to ensure that they are properly characterized and profiled prior to offsite disposal.
+ Work with BSC’s process Chemist, Process Engineers, and Production to gather data required to characterize waste generated from new and existing processes.
+ Review new Batch Records to monitor and update required changes to the waste characterizations and waste profiles (e.g. a new revision of a Batch Record might use different chemicals or different quantities of chemicals that affect the overall characterization and disposal of the waste stream).
+ Must be familiar with MS Excel & Word, and accessing and utilizing various Waste Vendor’s portals
+ Read and interpret analytical sample results.
+ Drives between BSC sites in own vehicle
+ Must be able to pass a job-related physical

Qualifications
+ High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
+ College level coursework in Environmental Science
+ Must be at least 18 years old
Experience
+ Basic computer experience (Word, Excel, Outlook)
+ Chemical manufacturing experience a plus
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee will be working indoors and outdoors in Colorado weather. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee will be walking and driving around and between BSC sites. The employee will be working in laboratories, manufacturing areas, and storage facilities that require the use of PPE. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
