    This is a 9-month contract-to-hire position for a Field Service Engineer with an automotive custom machine manufacturer. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates who are eager to transition into controls engineering positions after gaining foundational experience. Successful candidates will have demonstrated a strong grasp of basic engineering principles during their academic career, played a key role in college projects, and participated in hands-on co-op or internship experiences. The role involves significant learning opportunities, particularly through hands-on experiences, and offers a pathway to rapid career advancement in engineering.

    Responsibilities

    + Engage in hands-on training for 2-4 months at the Grand Rapids site, focusing on foundational learning.

    + Observe, shadow, and replicate behaviors during training under the guidance of experienced engineers.

    + Assist in the start-up, operation, and commissioning of equipment for customers.

    + Work with electrical assemblies, high voltage power sources, PLC panels, transistors, and motor drives on large automated equipment.

    + Provide customer support and training at various automotive assembly plant sites, primarily in the Detroit metro area.

    + Maintain a travel schedule constituting approximately 45% of the role, primarily to Detroit metro area.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)

    + Fundamental understanding of PLC/ladder logic

    + Demonstrated eagerness to develop new skills

    + Mechanical and electrical aptitude

    + Possession of a clean driving record

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + 1-2 years of experience with PLC programming

    + Experience through co-ops or internships

    + Strong troubleshooting and customer service skills

    + Experience with automotive manufacturing and engineering

    Work Environment

    While based at the home office, you will spend time both at a desk and on the shop floor working with machines. The role involves significant travel, approximately 45%, primarily to the Detroit metro area. Critical time will be spent on the floor at customer sites, performing tasks such as troubleshooting, installation, and servicing. The position is hourly, with opportunities for overtime pay and double time on Sundays.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
