Phlebotomist

Job Description

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in various duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. The position is based in Warrenton and Manassas.

Responsibilities

+ Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.

+ Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.

+ Decontaminate and update patient information as needed.

+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

+ Clearly explain the venipuncture process to patients in a courteous manner.

+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

+ Fully understand and follow all physician orders.

+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.

+ Package specimens for transport, ensuring they are stored at the required temperature.

+ Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them.

+ Follow protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.

+ Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

+ Attend annual department trainings.

+ Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.

Essential Skills

+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.

+ Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

+ High School Diploma or GED.

+ 2 years of experience in phlebotomy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ OBGYN experience is preferred.

+ IOP experience is a plus.

+ Pediatric healthcare experience is beneficial.

Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 4:30 pm. The role requires travel between Warrenton and Manassas for coverage. The position offers great health benefits upon permanent employment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manassas, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
