Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in mechanical design, particularly within the switchgear manufacturing industry. You will play a crucial role in developing custom solutions for a wide range of industries, transforming ideas from concept to design to production.
Responsibilities
+ Create, update, and release mechanical drawing packages for assigned projects in compliance with customer and industry specifications.
+ Design and develop mechanical layouts and assemblies for medium and low voltage switchgear, switchboards, and related systems.
+ Create and revise detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using Autodesk or equivalent 3D CAD software and AutoCAD 2D.
+ Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure mechanical and electrical integration of components.
+ Provide hands-on factory floor support to resolve design, fit, or assembly issues during production.
+ Participate in R&D projects, contributing to innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
+ Ensure designs comply with applicable standards, customer specifications, and manufacturing capabilities.
+ Troubleshoot design and fabrication challenges with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
+ Maintain accurate documentation and revision control for all design files and drawings.
+ Manage time effectively to meet project schedules and deadlines for customer approval drawings, BOM release, and production support.
+ Communicate effectively across departments, supporting smooth project execution and timely delivery.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience with a switchgear manufacturer.
+ At least 3 years of experience in mechanical design.
+ Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as Autodesk Inventor or equivalent.
+ Expertise in AutoCAD 2D.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with companies such as Siemens, SAI Advanced Power Solutions, Eaton Corp, G&W Electric, S&C Electric, C&C Power, Powell Industries, or Schneider Electric.
+ Background in switchgears and switchboards.

The position offers an opportunity to work in a growing company that has expanded its customer base nationally. This growth has led to an increase in team size from 32 to 200 employees over the past five years and the establishment of a new R&D group. The company specializes in manufacturing top-tier switchboards and switchgears and provides comprehensive electrical services, including commissioning, testing, and maintenance. Their power distribution products are used in various sectors such as data centers, retail stores, hospitals, and more.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elmhurst, IL
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
