Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to manage and maintain the groundwater extraction, treatment, and recharge (GETR) system at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI) in Oak Harbor, WA. This role involves day-to-day operations, maintenance, monitoring, and management of the groundwater remediation system, as well as providing maintenance for the Area 6 Landfill Cap as per contract requirements. The candidate will be supported by an onsite Project Manager to learn, perform, and complete these duties.
Responsibilities
+ Operate, maintain, and repair the groundwater extraction, treatment, and recharge system.
+ Provide periodic cleaning and maintenance for the air stripping tower, equalization tank, groundwater extraction wells, effluent discharge swale, and connecting piping.
+ Perform routine maintenance tasks such as hydro jetting underground piping, groundwater well development and cleaning, pressure washing, cleaning/replacing filters, minor plumbing repairs, equipment lubrication, and electrical/SCADA troubleshooting.
+ Conduct tests and field investigations to obtain data for environmental, engineering, and scientific analysis.
+ Maintain and calibrate multi-parameter meters for water and air quality.
+ Collect and ship samples from various water sources and soil or sediment to laboratories.
+ Conduct inspections and review institutional controls and maintenance requirements at facilities.
Essential Skills
+ 3+ years of experience in maintaining and repairing industrial systems with water pumps.
+ Mechanical repair and maintenance skills.
+ System operation and troubleshooting expertise in electrical and mechanical systems.
+ Eligibility for a Navy DBIDS badge for base access.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Preferred experience in HAZMAT or Wastewater operations.
+ Background in environmental testing or science.

Work Environment
The role is onsite, based in an office attached to a small pump station near Gate 90 outside the Naval Air Station Whidbey. The work involves driving to plants or pumps throughout the grounds, some located next to the office and others about 20 minutes away. The candidate should reside within a reasonable driving distance to respond to issues if needed. The position requires standing and walking 50% of the time or more, with a company truck available for onsite use. The team includes an onsite Project Manager and Environmental Technicians, with occasional support from technicians from Kitsap/Bangor.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.41 - $38.41/hr.
