Job Title: Pipelayer
Job Description
As a Pipelayer, you will assemble, install, and repair underground pipes, manholes, vaults, and fittings. This includes, but is not limited to, metallic and plastic pipe, ductile iron pipe, steel pipe, and concrete pipe for water, sewer, and drain work.
Responsibilities
+ Prepare the area where the pipe will lay by directing trenching and grading.
+ Perform functions of a Laborer as required.
+ Assist Equipment Operators in the placement of pipes.
+ Direct equipment Operators with hand signals.
+ Backfill around the pipe using hand tools.
+ Set up and work with pipe lasers and transits.
+ Locate and mark the correct position of pipe and fittings in an underground trench.
+ Assemble and install valves, fittings, and pipes composed of metal, PVC, ductile, and concrete.
+ Join pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, and plastic solvent cement.
+ Test pipes for leakage.
+ Measure and cut pipe.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in construction and pipe laying.
+ Skill in operating an excavator.
+ Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions.
+ Flexibility to adapt to changing assignments.
+ Capability to work with a variety of personalities.
+ Proficiency in basic arithmetic for inventory counting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Rigging and Signaling Certification.
+ Confined Space Training Certification.
+ Excavation & Awareness Training.
+ OSHA 10-hour certification.
+ 1-3 years of experience installing small and large-diameter pipes for water, sewer, storm drain, electrical, and communications.
+ Ability to work in Washington, DC, Maryland, and the surrounding areas.

Work Environment
The position involves working a mix of 10-hour and 8-hour day shifts. It requires a willingness to travel on the road around DMV utility projects.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr.
