Responsibilities Serving as a Athletic Trainer GS-1701-12 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is ln the Organizational Health Division with Mission and Readiness Support Directorate located in Glynco, Georgia. Typical duties include: Performing initial evaluation of students and staff injuries on an individual basis in determining the extent of the injury and independently providing treatment based on the assessment. Developing, implementing and integrating comprehensive individual rehabilitation program which is evidence based and facilitates a rapid and safe return to activities for the student and staff. Serving as an accomplished instructor with a high degree of accuracy and technical expertise for specific programs. Programs including but not limited to: Heat Stress; Law Enforcement Fitness Coordinator Training Program (LEFCTP); Tactical Medical Instructor Training Program (BTMITP); Tactical Medical First Responder Program (TMFR); CPR and First Aid; Reviewing and producing quarterly Injury Data Reports for selected agencies, classes and divisions to ascertain and research injury trends occurring in classes in order to make recommendations to reduce and or prevent risks of injury. In order to be considered for this position you must possess all of the following: Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross with automated external defibrillators AED certification (Certificate required) -AND- Must possess Athletic Trainer Licensure from state board and (Certificate required). Must obtain and maintain a Georgia State Athletic Trainer license within 90 days -AND- Must possess and maintain the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers in good standing (Certificate required) In addition to the selective placement factor all applicants must meet the Individual Occupational Requirements - basic requirements in A or B below: A: Successful completion a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study (24 semester hours) in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position such as sports medicine, human anatomy, physiology, nutrition and weight management, or related fields. Transcripts required. -OR- B: An equivalent combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major (24 semester hours) in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above. In addition to meeting the basic education requirement and selective placement factor, you must meet the following Specialized Experience to be considered minimally qualified for this position. To qualify for the GS-12, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Demonstrating experience assisting in providing technical knowledge in injury prevention and treatment involving a variety of injuries; evaluating and determining the adequacy of physical conditioning programs; providing assistance to instructors on procedures, techniques, and philosophies in areas involving prevention injury management, rehabilitation, and wellness; and conducting injury analysis. All requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, the FLETC requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. Physical Demands: The position exerts frequent physical activity such as walking considerable distances; carrying and moving injured students; carrying required athletic trainer supplies such as trauma kits and moving treatment modalities such as ultrasound and diathermy units. Position may be required to drive a government-owned or government-leased vehicle to perform duties at locations on and off-site. Operating a motor vehicle for the purpose of transporting injured students to Health Services is required. Is expected to maintain equipment used in treatment in proper working condition to the extent of cleaning, testing, making adjustments and minor repairs. Report the need for major repairs. Work Environment: The work environment involves everyday risks or discomfort which requires normal safety precautions typical of various indoor and outdoor training activities. Operation of treatment modalities requiring a combination of electrical and water is an everyday occurrence. Indoor areas are adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
