Installation & Cable Technician

Overview

Seeking Installation Technicians and Cable Technicians for projects in Ames, Des Moines, IA, and surrounding states. Some travel required (per diem provided). Candidates should have at least 6 months of low-voltage experience or equivalent hands-on training.

Technicians will be responsible for installing data racks/cabinets, CAT6 and COAX cables, faceplates, and performing testing and labeling. Additional tasks include setting up DirecTV cable boxes, modems, and satellite dishes, as well as building out server closets for network setups. Work will take place inside and outside school and apartment buildings, with occasional trenching and directional drilling. Technicians will follow instructions from project leads.

Key Responsibilities

+ Install and terminate CAT5/CAT6 and COAX cabling for data and video systems.

+ Set up and configure network hardware, including routers, modems, and wireless access points.

+ Install patch panels, faceplates, and structured cabling systems.

+ Assist in building server closets and organizing network infrastructure.

+ Perform testing, labeling, and quality checks on installed cabling.

+ Install security cameras (CCTV) and audio/video equipment.

+ Occasionally assist with trenching and directional drilling for outdoor cabling routes.

Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience with low-voltage cabling, cable termination, and punch-down techniques.

+ Familiarity with wireless access points, CCTV systems, and security installations.

+ Ability to read and follow installation diagrams and instructions.

+ Reliable, detail-oriented, and motivated to advance in the field.

+ Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
