Excel is one of the most powerful software programs used in both business and personal solutions across the globe. We are seeking a **Software Engineer II** to join the Excel Core team—an opportunity to impact hundreds of millions of daily users across nearly every country in the world.

+ **Core Platform Innovation:** Excel core functionality and fundamentals, including the calculation engine, collaboration experiences, performance and accessibility.
+ **AI-Powered Intelligence in the Grid:** Enhance the customer workflow with contextual suggestions powered by Copilot to provide inline interactivity where it matters most. Build the infrastructure to predict user actions and provide relevant suggestions to complete their flows. Develop innovating new functions like =COPILOT to mix the power of AI with the versatility and richness of the Excel calculation engine.
+ **Data Visualization and Business Intelligence:** Reinvent how users interact with data through pivot tables, charting, and new Copilot-driven insights.
+ **Cloud-Scale Architecture:** Re-architect the service-backed infrastructure that powers collaboration, Copilot, and core cloud capabilities by optimizing file storage and service protocols.
+ **Strategic Enterprise Partnerships:** Work closely with customers to refine and extend Excel’s platform with a focus on the core fundamentals—calculation, collaboration, reliability, and performance.

Responsibilities
+ Collaborates with other Software Engineers, Product Managers, Designers and cross-functional teams to deliver quality solutions across platforms (Win32, Web, Mac and Mobile) that ship to hundreds of millions of customers around the world.
+ Designs and develops large components with quality, performance, simplicity, durability, scalability, and maintainability.
+ Participates in gathering, organizing, and interpreting data intended to support informed decision-making.
+ Works across organizations and directly with partners both in Office and across Microsoft including other engineers and product leaders.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 2+ years experience designing and debugging complex applications or services.
+ 2+ years experience in shipping high-quality products or services.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ **Microsoft Cloud Background Check:** This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR equivalent experience.Skills in designing and debugging complex services.
+ Understanding of all aspects of the software development process.
+ Ability to collaborate with multiple teams.
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
