    As Microsoft’s Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure (SCHIE) business continues to grow, delivering new offerings on time, at scale, with high quality and optimized cost is critical. To achieve this, the SCHIE Product and Procurement Optimization (SPPO) team plays a key role in defining and implementing portfolio optimization processes and controls that enable effective management and delivery of silicon hardware development, including fleet hardware for Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure.

     

    The SPPO (SCHIE Product and Procurement Optimization) team is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer, to drive complex hardware initiatives. This role requires a profiecient background in hardware product development, including silicon and platform design, combined with strategic thinking, business acumen, and a bias for action. The perfect candidate thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, builds great partnerships across senior leaders and engineering teams, and brings proven experience collaborating with hardware and software engineers. Expertise in technical program management, engineering process optimization, vendor strategy and the ability to execute with precision in an evolving environment are essential.

    Responsibilities

    Senior** **Hardware** **Engineer -** **Technical PM – Key Responsibilities

    + **Planning & Execution**

    + Drive strategic engineering programs across the organization by defining scope, goals, success metrics, and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

    + Lead end-to-end hardware development programs from requirements through launch, meeting schedule, budget, and quality targets, while managing cross-functional product development plans with clear milestones and deliverables

    + Provide technical and program leadership with integrity, applying process where they add value and adapting effectively to ambiguity in silicon and hardware development environments.

    + **Process, Operational Excellence & Reporting**

    + Standardize workflows and practices; lead Lean Management and process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency

    + Define and track KPIs, maintain real-time dashboards, and leverage Power BI for data visualization and reporting.

    + Ensure adherence to data and reporting standards for accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all program communications.

    + Prepare and present program status reports highlighting risks, opportunities, and performance metrics; develop high-impact communications for leadership and organization-wide audiences.

    + Apply data analysis skills to translate complex data into clear, business-relevant insights that drive decision-making.

    + **Cross-Functional Collaboration**

    + Partner with key stakeholders including hardware and software engineering teams, sourcing, supply chain, procurement, and finance to drive strategic projects and portfolio optimization.

    + Collaborate with internal and external partners, facilitating communication across senior leaders and engineering teams.

    + Manage risks and recovery plans, escalating issues with recommendations for program decisions

    + **Vendor Management**

    + Manage key vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery of components and services.

    + Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to negotiate contracts, track purchase orders, and maintain compliance with sourcing policies.

    + Drive vendor performance reviews and resolve issues impacting program timelines or quality.

    + Leverage expertise in supply chain operations, BOM management, procurement processes, and vendor engagement to optimize cost, quality, and delivery.

    + Apply knowledge of finance processes, including OPEX and CapEx spend management, to ensure accurate budgeting and cost control across programs.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience

    + OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + Experience in hardware product development(Silicon and Platfrom development) across global engineering teams.

    + 3 years of experience in technical program management, implementing engineering processes, driving continuous improvement to deliver operational efficiency.

    + PMP® certification or equivalent process improvement credentials (e.g., Lean Six Sigma/ Agile, or related frameworks)

    + Advancedproficiencyin Excel and Power BI with great data analysis capabilities and the ability to translate complex data into clear, business-relevant insights.

    Other Requirements:

    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

     

    + Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Preferred qualifications:

    + Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience

    + OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + Expertise in engineering process development, Lean Management, and continuous improvement to drive operational efficiency.

    + Advanced Proficiency in KPI tracking, real-time dashboards, and Power BI for data visualization and reporting, ensuring adherence to data standards.

    + Skilled in partnering with cross-functional teams to define and implement features, infrastructure, and workflows; adept at stakeholder alignment and delivering projects on time and within budget.

    + Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to innovate, motivate, and lead diverse teams independently and successfully

    + Great capability to navigate ambiguity, prioritize strategic and tactical options, and drive issues to closure with high quality.

    + Extensive experience in vendor strategy and supplier management, including ODMs and system integrators.

    + Advanced data analysis skills to translate complex data into clear, business-relevant insights that drive decision-making.

    + Great communication and reporting skills, including clear program updates and executive-level presentations on complex solutions

     

    Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
