             As a **Senior Motion Design Lead - Demo** in Microsoft’s Design Studio for the Engines & Experiences (E&E) organization, you will lead a team focusing on creative development of motion and animation systems that bring product UI and new features to life. You will play a critical role in shaping how Microsoft’s commercial experiences are demonstrated, understood, and adopted—through expressive, intuitive, and high-fidelity motion design. This role demands deep expertise in product-focused animation, interaction storytelling, and demo creation. You will define motion principles that enhance clarity, guide user behavior, and elevate the emotional impact of new functionality. You’ll collaborate closely with product, engineering, and marketing teams to ensure that motion is not just decorative—but essential to how users experience innovation. You will also lead a team of motion designers and producers, driving excellence in craft, consistency in execution, and innovation in technique. You’ll be responsible for building scalable motion systems that support product launches, demos, and feature education across channels. Responsibilities + Translate strategic goals into scalable creative systems that drive brand consistency and audience engagement. + Lead the creative direction and execution of motion design for product UI, demos, and feature storytelling. + Define animation principles and motion systems that reinforce brand identity and enhance user understanding. + Partner with product and engineering teams to visualize new functionality in ways that are intuitive, inspiring, and technically feasible. + Develop high-fidelity prototypes and demo assets that showcase new features across platforms and devices. + Build scalable motion libraries and toolkits that support consistency and reuse across teams. + Provide clear, actionable feedback in creative reviews and mentor motion designers to grow their craft and impact. + Collaborate across marketing and design teams to ensure motion aligns with broader brand and campaign goals. Qualifications Required/minimum qualifications + Bachelor's Degree or Certificate in Design, Fine Arts, Human Computer Interaction, Visual Communications or related art field AND 4+ years experience in art design or a related art field working on computer games or entertainment. OR equivalent experience. + 4+ years of experience in motion design, animation, or interaction design. + 4+ years of experience leading motion teams in product-focused environments. + 4+ years of experience in motion design tools such as After Effects, Figma, Lottie, Principle, or similar. + A portfolio showcasing production-ready motion work for User Interface (UI), demos, or product storytelling. Additional or preferred qualifications + Bachelor's Degree or Certificate in Design, Human Computer Interaction, Visual Communications or related art field AND 12+ years experience in art design or a related art field working on computer games or entertainment OR equivalent experience. + 6+ years experience using related software and packages (e.g., Maya, 3DS Max, Photoshop/Adobe suite, Mental Ray, Substance Designer/Painter/Zbrush, SideFX Houdini, After Effects, Unity, Softimage). + 6+ years experience integrating campaign data, audience insights, and performance signals into creative operations + 2+ years experience in AI tools for design, content generation, and workflow optimization + 6+ years experience building scalable design systems across digital and experiential platforms. Art IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
