Department Summary
We are seeking a **Director of Governance** to establish and lead a hands-on governance function that ensures trust, transparency, and accountability in our AI/GenAI programs. This role will **anchor governance for AI/GenAI delivery** and **expand into data and analytics governance as a future state** .
The ideal candidate can think strategically, execute pragmatically, and brings deep technical expertise in data and ai governance programs. They will create the governance roadmap, establish operational processes, and build a team of governance analysts who work directly with delivery squads to embed governance into day-to-day workflows.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
+ **Current Scope (AI/GenAI Governance)**
+ Define and execute a 12–18 month governance roadmap, starting with AI/GenAI programs.
+ Develop standards for model documentation, monitoring, explainability, life cycle management, and core governance principles (bias, transparency, fairness, accountability and privacy).
+ Monitor and ensure compliance with AI laws and regulations, partnering with other EchoStar teams.
+ Manage AI-related risks and controls, maintaining the risk register and performing monitoring of key controls.
+ Support training programs to build awareness of AI, including best practices, risks, ethical considerations and compliance.
+ Define metadata requirements and governance controls within AI/GenAI platforms.
+ Build mechanisms for governance-in-delivery (e.g., checklists, automated gates, and embedded analysts).
+ Partner with InfoSec, Legal, Compliance Teams and business stakeholders to align without duplication of effort.
+ Establish governance KPIs and communicate progress to executives. **Future State (Data & Analytics Governance)**
+ Stand up **data governance function** : ownership, stewardship, cataloging, access/entitlement models (Unity Catalog, Snowflake), retention policies.
+ Stand up **analytics governance function** : quality standards, certified dashboards, lineage, explainability of KPIs.
+ Scale governance analysts into a shared service embedded across AI, data, and analytics delivery squads.
+ Develop knowledge base and training frameworks for business teams, IT teams and both Data Users and Stewards.
+ Collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture team to embed Governance within the systems and across the enterprise.
Skills, Experience and Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
+ 15+ years of experience leading data platform and business intelligence organizations with a focus on AI-driven innovation or automation-driven process improvements.
+ Proven experience designing and implementing governance frameworks (AI, data, or analytics).
+ Hands-on ability to draft policies, configure catalog/lineage tools, and partner with technical delivery teams.
+ Strong communication and facilitation skills; able to bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders.
+ Strategic mindset with the ability to execute pragmatically.
+ Familiarity with AI/ML lifecycle, metadata management, and analytics governance practices.
+ Background in telecom, technology, financial services, retail, or other data-heavy industries is welcome.
Salary Ranges
Compensation: $185,000.00/Year - $225,000.00/Year

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
