Honeywell’s CCC business unit is seeking a highly motivated Advanced Project Engineer Turbomachinery Controls Systems to join their team in Des Moines, IA.
As an Advanced Turbomachinery Controls Engineer you will be responsible for designing, engineering, and delivering advanced turbomachinery control systems for compressors, steam turbines, and gas turbines across the Oil & Gas, LNG, and Energy sectors. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects that enhance operational efficiency, safety, and reliability for leading clients in the energy industry.
You will report directly to our Engineering Manager, and you will work out of our Des Moines, IA location.
Key Responsibilities
**Project Engineering:** Lead the full engineering lifecycle of turbomachinery control system projects, from initial concept through detailed design, implementation, internal testing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and final delivery, while ensuring they meet requirements, timeframes, and budgets.
**Technical Authority:** Lead technical discussions with clients and cross-functional teams, translating complex requirements into robust engineering solutions.
**Cross-Functional Collaboration:** Work closely with sales, field engineering, and R&D to ensure project objectives are met and solutions are aligned with customer needs.
**Engineering Documentation:** Develop comprehensive project documentation, including I/O lists, Network Architecture diagrams, Control System diagrams/P&IDs, Control Narratives, Modbus lists, and FAT/SAT procedures.
**System Integration & Testing:** Lead internal testing and reviews to ensure quality and compliance, then lead and manage FAT with clients, including punch-list resolution and project delivery.
**Control System Development:** Program and configure PLC/DCS platforms (CCC Prodigy/Vanguard, Allen-Bradley, Honeywell Experion), develop HMI graphics, and implement industrial communication protocols (Modbus, HART, etc.).
**Control Applications Domain Expertise:** Learn and master CCC’s proprietary turbomachinery control application algorithms and contribute to ongoing product and process enhancements.
**Commissioning Support:** Provide expert remote support to field engineers during on-site commissioning and troubleshooting phases.
**Change Management:** Maintain and update engineering documents throughout the project lifecycle to reflect evolving customer requirements and design changes.
**Mentorship & Talent Development:** Mentor and train junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
**Process & Efficiency Improvement:** Identify and implement opportunities for process optimization and efficiency gains within engineering workflows and project execution.
Must Haves:
+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics
+ 5 + years of hands-on experience with turbomachinery (compressors, steam turbines, gas turbines) in industrial environments, with a focus in Oil & Gas, LNG, or PowerGen.
+ 5 + years in industrial instrumentation (flow transmitters, pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, control valves.
+ 5 + years of experience with control system and DCS platforms
+ 5 + years’ experience in control panel design and fabrication, including structural layout, bill of materials, and detailed wiring diagrams, and adherence to NEMA standards and hazardous area classifications.

+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering
+ Advanced PLC programming skills (ladder logic, structured text, continuous function charts) and HMI development.
+ In-depth knowledge of Modbus protocol and other industrial communication standards (Profibus DP, HART,).
+ Demonstrated experience with industrial cybersecurity standards, with the ability to perform cyber configuration of control systems and OT network components (PCs, network switches, firewalls)
+ Detail-oriented with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
+ Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions.
+ Proven ability to make sound engineering decisions with limited information and adhere to best practices.
+ Strong problem-solving mindset and commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
+ Experience with CCC Control Systems such as Prodigy, Vanguard, Series 3++ is highly desirable.
